abandoned it on a street corner

President Danal Have will not be gracing us with his
presence. They’re all busy on the FB xlt chat, which is
busier than this place is!

there was an irc channel or something, i prefer the forum

Soulseek. I believe you refer to the aphextwin.nu room on
Soulseek. I bet it's still there.

Just had a funny thought about what if Phobiazero was
an eager contributor to the Facebook XLT chat, where he
really talked shit about the site, "Fuck those guys, I'm
never going back there, they can dick about in PHP 3 hell
forever, suck my pinnekjøtt, see if I care
"

cointributor of it

i think the desertification of this site is to be found in
the death of the idm phenomenon, and tells a lot about the
music making done just for label glory and not just for the
sake of it

what is incredible to think if you spend a second on it, is
that how many people used to think music had be market-able
before giving it a spine, is that people weren't ever able
to recognize that their favourite idm artist like aphex twin
and autechre were products of nothing that had to do with
any industry regula

sad cos you realize it later in age, or at least not before
an honest study of music from scratch and free for any form
of interest

I think they probably do.

Regards "the death", I think it's not just the music, it's
everything around it, everything's changed. The original
record shops gone, now there are "lovingly curated vinyl
boutiques". Imagine a few years ago (ok, quite a few years
ago) you look back over the year and name 10, 20 albums
released that year that most people on here would know and
have an opinion on. An Autechre or BOC in the mix, a heap of
also rans that were quite good. Now it's all "Here's the 600
acts I've discovered on Bandcamp this week" - and you dip in
and out and find just... very little you can really get
into. It's just... amateur leisure noise.

Yes I am old. But what's worse is that I swear the kids are
already nostalgic for the good old days of Vaporwave.

apart aphex twin, i knew about the big idm names only when i
had an internet connection, and didnt digest them
immediately. it took me quite a long time to be able to
build an opinion on autechre, like the nts stuff for
example. i remember people quoting autechre ages ago
alluding to the fact that their music would have taken a
long time to be understood. here we are, understanding it,
but where's all the people? did they already demolish their
spaceships? or they are lost into some netlabel galaxy?

a case of leaving before the party started and not arriving
when the party has ended. so much left to do in music. thats
what autechre and aphex twin want you to know about their
music.

It's just... amateur leisure noise.

i know what you mean, it bet its mainly people in their 20s,
more worried about selling their music than worried about
making that music presentable
