I think we should have (and I did) because it has shown the Government up to be entirely useless, the facade has slid right off. I don't think it (Brexit) will even happen, I don't think there's the will or the expertise to carry it out. The UK will probably be forced to leave, which is what, really, the EU wants. We're no friends of France or Germany, let alone the other batshit countries on the fringes. People will still flock to this country in the same way there are not millions of British people flocking to Eastern Europe. People around the world still think we're cool in the same way that nobody in the fucking world thinks Poland, Slovenia or Hungary are in any way enviable. Any arguments for staying in the EU are always economic. But I don't want the UK to become just another part of some Euro version of Poundland, where every country is the same. They've overreached themselves, they always hated us, and now they can fuck themselves with refugees and lunatic, childless homosexual leaders like Merkel and Macron. |

I was a bit surprised that so many people were genuinely soo shocked by the Brexit referendum. The people who predicted that Brexit just *couldn't* happen made, it seems to me, very basic mistakes. (A) Either they were convinced that human beings behave exactly as neoliberal paradigms predict. They thus falsely assumed that human behavior is mostly guided by the aim of maximizing overall GDP growth. [An almost absurd idea.] Or (B) they assumed that the specific, official ideal of a multi-cultural society, which is connected to the EU [everybody can do what they want unless they harm others], would be self-evident and appealing to everybody who's not in a fit of racist rage. But of course it's an ideal that is not self-evident and probably not even logically coherent [because it's very unclear at what point you harm somebody else with your own behavior]. ..... Personally I would like the UK to stay in the EU, though, because I liked how easy it was to spend extended time there. .. But I also won't mind if it will be more difficult in the future for the masses of annoying British tourists to come here. |
