I wrote Ridley Scott an email saying his new film needed
arse rippers in it to make it scary but for some reason he
didn't respond

i just was not scared.

there is surly an art to the direction of making people
scared. like having people jump out their seat screaming.

I think one of the issues was the location chosen for the
alien attacks, the first film nails it, its essentially a
ghost house style effect, because of shadows industrial
noises, you never know where the alien is so the location
does 95% of the physiological disturbance for you

yes, I was describing to Russell my issues with Alien
Resurrection, the issue is Joss Whedon wrote the script, he
should stick to trite teenage stuff like Buffy the Vampire
slayer, its not all his fault though, Because Sigourney
Weaver was executive producer and the star of the film, they
had to concoct this contrived method of bringing back
Ripley, which shouldn't have happened. As much as I love
Ripley the alien is the real star of the film and
shoehorning in Ripley for the sake of marketing was a crap
idea

I did like the failed mutation hybrid scene though, and I
kind of liked the design of the snot alien but it never did
anything scary and was killed very quickly without
dismembering enough people

yes they look like they were cast for their visual look,
like graphic novel stereotypes rather than purely acting
abilities, I suppose they fit the style of the film but
that's my issue, its not a style corresponding to what was
established in the first couple of films
