Cosmic mind hack: When one's focused on accomplishing things, with actions based on scheduling (all 24 hours accounted for), there's no room for worry, fear, or "not doing", because none of the superfluous things are scheduled; all actions based on The Schedule.
We all gotta make our own schedules, yo. It's the only way forwards.

i agree doing needs scheduling and doing is enough i think. you can position yourself and reschedule depending on current circumstances.

yes, i often get obsessed with planning/scheduling that i never start or don't have energy left for the doing. the planning should be kept pretty simple and flexible. otherwise you start obsessing over the future and the best possible conditions. there won't ever be the best possible conditions. just do what you're doing here, right now in the current reality.

but saying that and grasping that are two different things of course :) it definitely doesn't happen in a day and you have to always keep on reminding yourself that. i, i mean.

Read an interesting article about "not to do" lists.

i noticed that going with the flow of the stuff to do, means starting to act the very same moment something pops in your head, helps building up the foundation of a well remembering mind. with this premise you can start schedule in your mind, learn to do it ahead of time, and once you built your own routine and livin in it, learn to break, and have proper feed and proper rest.

What criterion would you suggest for deciding whether or not something is superfluous?

mermaidman Yah, getting lost in preparation can be a horrible intellectual trap. And we do indeed make our own best possible conditions, by DOING. The best situation is making the best out of the situation.
mohamed Great technique.
welt In my original post I specifically meant "worry, fear, or 'not
doing'" were the superfluous things. Important things are those that are on the path towards living the life you want to live and being the person who you want to be, but of course this assumes that one already has a "sense of self" and generally knows what one wants. The reason why scheduling is an IDM Lazer Hack, is because one doesn't need to always know what one wants; like if one were to put into their calendar, "eat Doritos and masturbate to furry porn, 1PM to 11PM", it'd become pretty apparent how much such a thing wouldn't be beneficial in the long run ("holy shit- I spend 580 hours masturbating to Doritos last month, wtf!!!").
Here's a video from a few days ago that's kind of related (about how your personal free time is priceless).

its a way to get rid of the pressure you get when you suddenly remember you forgot to do some really important things. really dislike that feeling of anxiety and shit. getting rid of lazyness is somehow connected to better memory performance, it seems to me

i do make mistakes, mind you. but it seems to me that the more the mind is trained to react (to lazyness for training means, for example) and stay focused the more you improve the ability to see where you be mistaken, to be less overwhelmed by shit when it happens and to adjust your behaviour accordingly.

always have bad ocd with bubble icons (eg, unread mail, moves in chess with friends, etc) and wanting to rid of them so usually mental pleasure reward to clear all bubbles like a game
used that though/workflow with todo app now too. put even mundane tasks to do for day and little bubble icon pops up (3) and now ocd kicks in and have to do those tasks to clear/reset the bubble icon. works fucking wonders for motivation and getting the shits done.
