Yeah Bane

So I watched the ghostbusters review this morning because it
showed up on my youtube feed. The director Paul Feig reminds
me of Michael Gove the politician. They're both sort of posh
and twatty. His assistant writer is freaking hawt imo. It's
a shame that for all their kindness and enthusiasm that they
made such a shit film. Oh well.

I totally agree that the black woman was the funniest. I
laughed when Plinkett says "STOP TALKING". And I agree that
the original Ghostbusters is underrated. Respect due to Red
letter for caring about this shit, they should be paid by
hollywood to review scripts.

Yes the little edits they did improved it and it was so easy
to do, the main issue was that there was no real script it
was just ad libbed badly 90% of the way through

Why Women Aren't Funny

funnily enough I read that article a while ago, what I would
say more than women not being funny is that American movies
on the whole aren't funny, also I suppose I can count on one
hand the amount of women that make me laugh, I think its
down to being male as well,

Its like that google engineer who got fired, he was telling
an uncomfortable truth so he had to go,

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-08-09 15:39 [#02527698]

the reason you tend to get more engineers that are male, is
that on the whole it just appeals to the male mind more, its
just true no matter how you spin it, to deny reality isn't
sexist its just stating the truth,

My aunty lives next door and she's a hardcore feminist. But
when it's time to lift a washing machine for my grandmother
then it's the men who must do it. :-/

yes I was watching this bbc advert for this show called boys
and girls where they are denying that their is any
biological different between men and women, it denying
reality its really weird to me

I didn't buy the ladies dressed as nuclear engineers thing
at all. All the way through I'm thinking "these are lame
American comedians". I'm surprised by how many poo and fart
jokes Plinkett points out. And the oops I fell over thing
happened so many times. Can't believe how babyish it is.

yes the act like a bunch of children in a high school play,
its really weird, the humour is so shit its mindboggling,
its hard to be that unfunny

shows you the fear of upsetting people that the film has
decent reviews, you cant say something is inherently shit
without someone saying you hate women,

Don't get me wrong there are loads of even worse films, it
does get a lot of negative attention because it has all
female leads,

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-08-09 16:06 [#02527706]
Points: 31006 Status: Lurker

I think yeah making it an all female cast probably was a
mistake, in my honest opinion, it does sound terribly sexist
to say but I think its the truth,

offline umbroman3 from United Kingdom on 2017-08-09 16:13 [#02527707]

Women in movies are there for sex appeal, without that
there's little of interest to see. No sex appeal.

In a comedy there are supposed to be funny characters like
Rodney Dangerfield and Chevy Chase. No funny characters.

The script should have been deadpan and witty. Instead it's
babyish and improvised trash. No jokes.

The overall plot is stolen from the first movie. Paul Feig
and his hot assistant should not write again.

It was like that cringe humour like the office I don't get
that sort of thing, its just not for me, yes wit I like a
bit of wit to my humour unfortunately it a forgotten
commodity in modern cinema, just dick and ass jokes

Reminds me of Kevin Smith, the genius who made Clerks, and
how many big turds he has produced since then. At one point
he was going to direct a remake of Fletch. Would have sucked
ass.

Yes it's a bit sad what happened to Kensington Smith. Also
very arrogant to say of me; I'm sure/hope he's happy.

Nice bit of autocorrect there, left in for good effect.
Makes him all Posh.

I know what you mean, yeah. It seems like all great
directors have a period where they make such great things,
that expectations are often too highly set from then on.
Maybe they get cocky, maybe the pressure, maybe we don't get
them anymore. Money, bah we could talk about it for hours.
We were talking about Scott and a few others if I rem
correctly only recently.

Speaking of which, I tired to watch Shutter's Island but
just wasn't in the mood after a bit. If you've seen it,
should I keep the recording and watch it?

I haven't seen it, is it a Scorsese film? I will have to
watch it myself, yeah I think he suffered the same in wolf
from wall street and gangs of new York, like take his tax
driver, goodfellas formula and apply it to other stories
where the wise guy thing doesn't work as well, he is
essentially remaking his own film but with diminishing
returns each time, still even his bad films are usually
good, I think even casino was basically goodfellas more ore
less

the style and tone is too similar so everything blurs into
one

i'm being hypercritical today, don't get me wrong I love
Scorsese films, I often watch and enjoy films of much lesser
note, just in reference to Kevin Smith its even worse, I
enjoyed his anecdote about his aborted superman project much
more than any film he has made in the last couple of decades

offline RussellDust on 2017-08-09 20:13 [#02527755]

Nah you make good points.

Though I would say that I thought Casino was ace, and I
guess always preferred to imagine it was done purposely
(possibly just denial), the similarities with Goodfellas.

I did once try to watch the new Ghostbusters but bailed
after about 15 minutes. I like in the Plinkett video the
actor chortling that they filmed long sessions of their
weak-sauce ad-libbed scenes - as if, Terrence Malick like,
Feig might conceivably go back and edit a 5 hour version of
the film.

Shutter Island I found deeply disappointing. It starts off
good. I won't give an spoilers, only to say it manages to
spoil itself about two thirds of the way through and from
that point I found I didn't care.

Their is almost nothing I disagree with him on, perhaps the
fact he is generous to the talents of the main cast, I think
that's more me though I really don't like sitcom style
humour

Can it be said that modern cinema is a reflection of the
general dumbing down of society? then again I think the
general public realised it was a load of bollocks, the only
people defending it are the PC brigade

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-08-10 15:54 [#02527867]

hmm I sound quite sexist in this thread, I must admit

but if i said

I think it was a great idea to make the cast all female.
would that not be sexist too?

maybe not so much but ...

You cant win against the PC brigade ...

you will be labelled with some form of 'ism.' or 'ist' very
quickly..

they are programmed by the globalist to weaken you and move
forward the new world order agenda.

yes I suppose your correct, ive always been dubious of
enforcing stuff like when the bbc obviously told doug Naylor
to make kochanski a regular character, I reckon that's
probably why rob grant left, main reason, its why BBC wont
have red dwarf on their channel anymore, a crew of all
blokes

BBC really is a bit like a subtle propaganda machine, when I
saw that program, no girls or boys I was thinking surely
this is beyond the remit of a public broadcasting network

well perhaps propaganda is too strong a word, but they do
have a political bias against scientific fast by the looks
of things, i.e. denying physiological difference in genders

I'm in no way suggesting being a woman limits you in any way
in any aspect of your life, but also I find it disingenuous
to ignore factual difference between the genders, whats the
point of denying that, it will create more problems
