I know this might be a strange question, but do you think
IDM had any influence on your political leanings? I found
myself fascinated by certain sounds and aesthetics which
could be classified as modernist.
So i was wondering if this kind of culture influenced me
somehow. Not because it carried certain messages, but
because it articulated a certain kind of mood..

Its probably subtly shaded my opinions having discussions on
here about stuff, i know why people in the back hills of
Alabama (for example) continually have right wing views or
what not because there is no one around to challenge their
entrenched worldview, you need people to challenge your
opinions, and if they stand up in your mind to scrutiny and
logic than that is great, if they make you have a change of
heart for the right reasons, that is also great

politics and music is ok, if you know what youre talking
about, eg if you made a significant experience on the field,
internet activism is not a way that could make someones
music more seriously. look at muslimgauze, i read he never
visited the middle east once in his life, made his manifesto
totally rely on trasmitted data. in fact he totally missed
the message imo.

I greatly enjoy listening to music that could be called
challenging, and IDM, I must admit, as a broad genre, is one
I enjoy most. Some of Autechre's music took me years to
appreciate and "get"; a process that continues to this day.
I think " experimental " music can open your mind in terms
of creativity, and ways to view the world, and in my case
"this sort of music" has had a huge impact. But in terms of
politics I remain as intolerant, xenophobic, judgemental,
superior and racist as ever. So I think it's swings and
roundabouts.

Autechre tried with the Anti EP.

I guess even though most would tend to lean towards the
left, they don't necessarily want their music to be
political. You can tell tough, I mean Boards of Canada don't
exactly come across as right wing extremists.

Mind you now I think of it, Merzbow, though maybe not IDM
per say, is very political with his music.

RE: Merzbow - I think that comes with the territory when
you're a hardcore gayer.
