After having recently noticed the listening pattern of a
lot of people thanks to the statistics that are given by
streams like Spotify and such, I've come to realize, that by
the looks of it, a whole lot of people are deceived by their
first listens when music is concerned at least.

Such a shame.... I personally have a few "musts"
(guidelines)

1. Give it a 2nd, 3rd, maybe 4th try...
2. If no likey, have a go from last to first for a different
feel.
3. skim through it.
4. If you already know/like the artist, make sure you listen
too it in good timing (especially the first time).

What's really tricky about listening to albums is that after
a certain level of artist skill, basically everything is
good if listened to in the right context. This is where
things like albums covers are QUITE important, because it
can subconsciously set context. Text written on the page,
etc.- these are all important factors in setting the right
mindset for album listening. We also tend to give artists
more credit if we've heard their music before.

But if you really wanna go on that psychological route, the
first track that autoplays on your album site or whatever,
that shit has to have a super bangin' intro to get people
like WHOA WTF. Otherwise, it's the standard "let's just
skip around to five different places on five random tracks.

I feel these same "tricks" are important when sending demos
to labels, cuz they seriously don't have time to listen to
everyone's 1 hour albums.

AGT Rave Cru - Terror Overdrive -- like that whole track is
actually just "okay", but the intro is so good that I keep
returning to it and quite like it.

i dont think you have to lose your time in becoming a intro
maker, i think its welcome if it comes otherwise it does not
matter

I love the sleeve of 10CC's "Bloody Tourists" (Hypgnosis,
natch) but I can't listen beyond "Dreadlock Holiday"
