this exact scene is playing out somewhere in the cosmos
right now..perhaps. Would solve the fermi paradox aliens too
busy fighting off giant starfish

Seems to me that the starfish needs to reassess his
situation. He is able to shoot his yellow fire from his arms
independently yet chose to focus two arms on one guy at once
who was already running away, allowing him to get shot by
the two guys closest to him. With this sort of negative
attitude he's not likely to last too long.

at least he doesn't have smaller versions of himself for
hands i guess.

yes you have to take into account that its a starfish of
some description, i know its a big assumption as its an
alien planet, but if i take it to its logical conclusion,
its probably reacting to stimuli rather than having a well
thought out stratagem or other cognitive thoughts. Having
said that i did think exactly what you said that its not
being very efficient

Yes you're likely right. It's probably the case that the
starfish was relaxing in his overground undersea paradise
just minding his own business and the man who is now in the
picture having his spine melted thought he'd have a pop
causing the starfish to react. the guy probably felt 'oh no,
I've done it now' and decided to make a run for it while his
more heroic crew members tried to save him, he seems like a
cowardly type, no wonder he took the first shot.

yeah the star fish is like "come and have a go if you think
your hard enough" you can see the look of utter contempt in
its bodily expression
