AFX tracks & imagination

Wizard Ma© from Holland on 2001-03-12 10:54 [#00000938]

Question: listen to an Aphex track and try to describe how
weird your experience with it is, what you think of when you
here it.

For example:

-Funny Little Man-
When I listen to this track, I see a guy who I know, called
Job, dancing and singing the vocals. He's a real funny
little man oh yeah!

when i hear come to daddy (and see the video) i remember the
good old days as a little kid running around killing
people.. or.. no thats to fucking weird.. =)

When I listen to funny little man - my mind wanders and
images of ronny corbett fill my head riding a shetland pony
dressed only in a pair of cowboy boots.

mmmm please excuse me I must go to the toilet.

Sorry about that I had some urgent matters to take care of

I also once thought about Bob Hoskins and Paul Daniels.
These are also small celebrities.

I remember when I first got the RDJ album listening to it
four times in a row, while drawing a page full of abstract,
organic forms, like the kind of plants that might grow on
another planet. Although I like to think of that album as
themes for kids' TV shows that haven't been made yet, so
there's more food for thought. Ambient 1 and Polygon Window
were inspired by Cornish landscapes, and I can see those
when I listen. Ambient 2 is more like colours and textures -
orange sand, pale blue rubber, etc.

when i listen to aphex i don't really see things that i can
explain. I see weird landscapes made of dull neon lights
when i listen to SAW II. When i listen to Windowlicker i see
people who are dancing, and melting as well. When i listen
to on i see dolpins jumping out of water and doing strange
things. I cannot explain it better than that,

It is better when i am stoned cause instead of seeing things
i feel things, it is excellent!

when I listen to the more orchestral aphex songs (Schottkey
7th path,ICCT hedral,Shiny Metal Rods,Grass etc..) It
conjures images of post apocalyptic wars and the
hopelessness of humanity,I'm not a gothic or anything, but
that's seriously what I think of when listening to it (if
you've ever played chrono trigger you'll know what I mean)

Ramalpha84 from Thames New Zealand on 2001-03-13 08:14 [#00000985]

When I heard funny little man, I pictured some cartoonish
stuff: a spoiled little kid forcing his odd looking
grandfather to dance (come on little funny maaaaaan!)

I hate that song. ICCT Hedral is better and conjures up
clearer, but more bizzare images. A strange landscape, at
night or in space (I'm not sure which), all sorts of odd
stuff in it, some cheesy stuff like melted clocks or optical
illusions as all the buildings, and most of the things are
bright green and purple.

Start As You Mean To Go On and On makes me see speed up
images of racing through beautiful jungles. Same goes for
Autechre's Rae, only that looks more ghostly as well as
beautiful.

when listening to Arched maid via RDJ i think that i want to
cry because im so happy.. or something.. like the most
complex beautyful thing in the world that you just cant
explain.

i think the same about Every Day, except for the lyrics,
wich is
kinda depressing if you think about it but the beauty of
all
the hangable auto bulb songs is just perfekt..

(i'm to happy today, do not read what i write)

"Shiny metal rods" is a masterpiece.
Listening to it is like standing on the edge of an
unbelievably high cliff and being forced to jump off.
