ampi, I watched the first speaker. Very interesting. How did you stumble across an Estonian geopolitical conference? What struck me was the first guy said that Russia was bringing 19th century ideas to the 21st century, and how this was an advantage for them. I interpret that as meaning, Russia is using ancestral modes of cognition, e.g., tribalism and simplistic notions of self as good and other as bad and unworthy. His entire spiel was devoted to dispelling self-awareness and self-criticism, an exhortation to naive belief in the goodness of one's tribe. While this may indeed be a factor in winning wars (and football games), is it really where we want to go as a nation, an alliance of nations, a species...? I'll watch some more later. It's giving me a lot to think about. |
