aphex and aleksi perala both use alternate / microtonal /
xenharmonic tunings.

this rabbit hole goes deep

whats amazing about people is, you find something a bit
weird and then you find there are whole communities of
people chatting about it full time

Some hardware can use alternate tunings, like the new OB
from Dave Smith. A lot of softsynths can do it.

You can create your own tuning files with Scala.

thing at the end is lovely
its 'just' 100 divisions to an octave instead of 12, so
some of the 12TET pitches wont be there with 100,bold.
(i remember cylob was doing alternate tuning stuff a few
years ago for his bangface set and people said it sounded
out of tune)

There was a Arabic woman on Xfactor years ago, in the 'lets
laugh at them' tv bit who was singing really well but in
24tet and they all were going 'she's out of tune'. Vibe on
that.

which softsynths?

thought you could do that by changin some parameters in all
softsynths

regarding scala looks a bit elaborate to install, im not a
geek anymore, kind of lazy atmo, but thanks for the link ill
keep it for future reference

big list here

The free Plogue Sforzando sampler works really well for
microtuning.
