FSOL is classic and they were one of the cutting edge
electronica artists of the early 90's. My personal favorites
are the "Cascades" Single/EP/Minialbum off of the grand
"Lifeforms" album - which is also great - and the follow up
- initially a limited edition - studio live album "ISDN".
The title is dated but the music feels fresh even today.
Their music videos - that had a substantial amount of
rotation on the late night alternative shows on MTV - were
absolutely mindblowing back then.

I muted Nausicaa and gave the entire anime a FSOL
soundtrack.
It was played at a few parties. This thread made me
remember.

It is a brilliant album - I think I have bought it
about 4 times, somehow it has got repeatedly lost over the
years. Every track on it is gold. I need to listen to it
again, now.

Stolen documents is my fave, i suppose some of the samples
date the album but id rather listen to it than 99% of modern
techno

sir, i find the word 'shitty' rather offensive in this given
circumstance. having majored with a graphics degree in 1993
i would say that at the time it was rather forward at the
time. i await your pseudo apology?

kidding thou, as an age the album still stands out. as more
of a compilation (as a lot of debut albums are) of early
stuff. dougans was a stalwart in the late 80s together with
plenty of others. when he decided to join with kobain it
wasn't to everyone's taste but his/their music changed
drasticly.

lifeforms and isdn were not to everyone's taste. my sadly
deceased dj friend used to jokingly mock them as over 40s
techno but he had a point.

but they were and i would like to think still are pioneers
and their sound will always affect musicians from then until
now and the years beyond my life.

Thanks for posting Gwely. That really goes along well!
Do you have a tracklist along with it?

FSOL were in a league of their own. I have difficulties to
accept that they, and a lot of other early IDM acts, will
never create soundscapes like this again.

This thread is deja vu. This exact thread has come up at
least twice here. The Future Sound Of Nausicaa and
everything...

Hardly anyone ever mentions Dead Cities!

I listened to it to death at the time.

Personally I like the graphics. I call them "shitty" in an
affectionate way; anyone plugged into the excitement of
those times will feel similarly, but to others they may be
genuinely shitty....

Strange, right? We'd assumed it'd go on forever.
