I heard a rumour that Chris Cunningham is directing the
film version of William Gibson's book Neuromancer, with RDJ
doing the soundtrack. Has anyone else heard anything to this
effect..?

As of a week ago movie is still on, although it's in
pre-production hell right now. Cunningham is still slated
to direct, although they've had to rethink the way they want
to present it in light of every idea of Gibson's being
stolen and mass produced in films such as the Matrix. RDJ
had said originally that he would do the soundtrack but then
later reneged and said he "couldn't be bothered

What kind of exapndion do you need?
Didn't you notice all those cyberpunk/dark future style
movies that were really popular during the mid-late
nineties?

yes i did, and i did know that they were practially
nuromancer ripps. but that's not the point that i wanted
expanded. i was wondering if it could be explained more in
the idea that this theft is suposedly to be prtrayed in the
move.

"Didn't you notice all those cyberpunk/dark future style

nineties?"

didn't you notice that there's only one of these... "all
those?" were there more?

and i do believe that neromancer came from an old ass comic
based on the same principals.

Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have said stolen, more influenced.
"The Matrix" is the name that William Gibson gave to the
net in Neuromancer, and a lot of his ideas of the future
have had a major influence on motion pictures and their
presentation, specifically one's dealing with the future of
virtual reality and the internet. As such, Cunningham and
Gibson both said that it would be difficult to present
Neuromancer now in the way they originally envisioned, as it
would not seem as new as it would, say, even four years ago.

I heard that "Johny Mnemonic" is basicly 90% the story of
"Neuromancer".

Is this true?
I haven't read Neuromancer.

Johnny Mnemonic was originally a short story written by
Gibson for the short story collection Burning Chrone. The
movie script was written by Gibson, although he was not
particularly happy with the end product of the movie.
Apparently there's a Japanese edit which is closer to his
original vision

Yeah. I can't understand why he gets chosen for big roles
in really good movies like the matrix, Devil's Advocate, uh,
bill and ted's excellent adventure (ok, maybe he was right
for that role).

Anyway, if you haven't read any Gibson, Nueromancer's great,
but kind of difficult to read. I think Idoru is a great
introduction to his work, if you want to check it out.
Gibson's kind of the reason that you have a picture under
your name on this messageboard, as the book will show.

I don't care how long it takes them to make the Neuromancer
move, I'd just like them to do it right ... I always
pictured Sting as Case, but maybe that's stupid.

Is William Gibson still using a typewriter? If I recall,
Neuromancer was written on a typewriter, that's kinda funny.
