Could easily be from reactions with olivine in
regolith/soil, could have been generated ages ago and then
been trapped in soil only to be periodically released when
soil is disturbed. Probably some still being generated at
depth where hydrothermal fluids still circulate. Life's
unlikely, but who knows?

yes there is life on mars, the santa clauses have lived
there for 1000s of years at the north pole base
