Anyone have any fave composers

looking for predominantly happy, beautiful ...but with great
depth.. light n shade. Genius type stuff that makes y jaw
drop.

i like Joe Hisaishi, John Williams, Mozart, but I know
there is much more to explore.

tnx

I love Feldman too. My fave of his is "For Philip Guston"
recorded by the S.E.M. Ensemble. The recent Atopos edition
is nice as well.

Check out This site. It is dedicated to current
classical music and offers some nice mixtapes, with works by
various contemporary composers.

Wow, that was nice! It's very drone-y. I'm wondering, if you
cut this classical/new music thing down to the bone, is it
all about "the drone"? The hum? The vibration of the
universe? Well, I guess Feldman was more about the colour of
the universe...but so much of the "new" stuff are drones...
and that comes from some basic, spiritual and primitive
place, am I wrong? Tribal music is usualy very rythmic, but
then you also have The Drone... I wonder what came first:
The Beat or the Drone?

I wanted to name one of my kids Timbre

My wife refused,

of course...

......It's another drunken evening @xltronic!

Rachmaninov, Khatchaturian, Shostakovich, Beethoven,
Schumann...pretty much the Russian and German composers.
The only exceptions I have found are Mozart (austrian) and
Chopin (polish)

LAZY_TITLE

obligatory Shostakovich string quartet no 8 that i post in
every classical thread. done extremely well by the kronos
lot. it is very sad music and very beautiful. messien is
waycoolio and morton feldman and ting too. i am hugely
underinformed but taking a lot of bach at once is...
altering

Hey Freqy,

I thought you'd really like
movement 4 of prokofiev's "classical" symphony.

French music you say?

If we mention Ravel, we have to mention his bro Debussy:
les collines d'Anacapri

But to be proper french music hipsters we must bust out some
Rameau, Suite in G
