ROOM 237 (The Shinning doc)

If you enjoy Kubrick, which I'm sure you do, then this is
worth a watch.

Some of the insight into the making of the movie is
jaw-dropping. Then you get the real conspirators going a bit
mental. Some of the analysis is so over the top it's
entertaining.

I loved the bits about the mapping of the hotel, which is
all wrong. And the "accidental (or not)" continuity errors,
they don't half go on about those.

It made me want to watch The Shinning again straight
away.

It's a bit to lengthy though, a shorter film with less
whacky interpretations would have made it perfect.

I have been meaning to watch it, but I'm also kind of
apprehensive about it, what with all the mad ramblings I
expect there to be in it.

The Shinning is an incredible film.

It starts off really well, some of the theories really hold
up. But mad ramblings? Oh yes.

The bits regarding connections to the "faked moon landing"
are when it really gets surreal. Though some of it, like
Danny wearing an Apollo 11 jumper and going from "the earth
to the moon" by walking up a corridor to room 237 is pretty
interesting.

Worth a peek. You can always ffwd when bits get too silly.

Some connections are clearly correct though. This is why I
enjoyed myself. There's a bit about the guy offering the job
to Jack getting a boner as they shake hands. Probably quite
a well known fact on the net but I had never noticed.

I have never noticed that, or heard of it. That's..
peculiar.

It's a pretty entertaining, nothing really new in the theory
department, especially if you've explored this great site:

Kubrick Films

(Hope I've done that right, been years since I've had to use
html to link something!)

It's not a real boner. It's just something on the desk that
makes it look like it just as they shake hands. You see it
frame by frame and it's pretty great.

everything was new to me. I thought I knew the film well. A
lot of it is bullshit too.

I don't know if I really want to check that site out. Bit of
a wuss.

It's a really great site, great essays on his films, and
pretty easy to get into!

I'm not afraid of difficulty. I'm weary of losing some of
the innocent magic.

Like with Twin Peaks. Huge fan but I don't roam the sites
for info. I enjoy it so much on a personal level.

Will check it out!

Funny you mention Twin Peaks, I read the new book
"Reflections: An Oral History of Twin Peaks" the other day -
basically just interviews with almost all involved (minus
Lynch and Lara Flynn Boyle): it was an interesting read,
quite humorous to read how almost all of the actors had no
clue about what was going on!

"quite humorous to read how almost all of the actors had no
clue about what was going on! "

Ha ha! He does that a lot. Dern and Theroux had similar
experiences with Inland Empire didn't they?

I remember seeing Laura Dern react when she has to go
through the small door. She was putting 2 and 2 together and
was amazed!

I had no idea there was an oral history of Twin Peaks, I'll
have to get my hands on that.

In regards to the shining, I really enjoy the disorientating
geometry of the hotel, i never knew until i saw this
documentary, but perhaps it made me subconsciously feel
uneasy

So i'm in my garage watching this, feeling uneasy,
intrigued. Then i hear one of my stuffed animals that's
been packed away, untouched in a box for many years suddenly
play it's little audio soundbite when you squeeze its belly:

"I love you thiiiiiiis much" In a little kid's voice...
over, and over.

KUBRICK YOU MONSTER

My girlfriend and I are staying in this big house in the
middle of nowhere for a few days. I was watching this last
night and became rather scared for some irrational reason. I
was quite high to be honest. Definitely worth a watch. I
like those juxtapositions with the reverse film playing
simultaneously with the forward film. Surely it must be
unintentional, how the hell do you edit a film to do that.
Impossible. Anyway, I became so scared. It's so dark here at
night. Luckily I didn't murder her. She fell asleep on the
couch, looked so comfortable but I woke her up and was like
baby let's go to bed I'm scared.

The Shinning - sounds like getting your ass handed to you by
hoodlums.
