i've never understood exactly what defines the two music genres. what sounds are used mainly and are there certain rhythms and patterns used?

Drum and bass and Jungle can be easily related to each other, only recently have I begun to use these terms and others, and I HATE THEM! But, I guess now I use them sometimes. Jungle.. is a ligther form of DUB. DUB being Drum'N'Bass style. Which is exactly what it sounds like, say... Roni Size is DUB style mostly. Photek is DUB.. check them out. I hate big labels for tunes, when you can throw so many varying styles within those genres.. its so annoying, but oh well.

i am not particularly up to scratch on the subject of dub - but [REFLEX] - you 'aint got a clue what you are on about.
you are mistaking dub for the abbreviation dnb - drum'n'bass.
i'm not gonna argue with you as i have pretty much made up my mind about you and you're musical knowledge since you you made those ill informed statements you made about the origination of hip-hop.
....oh and well done poe.

He's got a point, [REFLEX]. One more thing, Jungle is actually the more hardcore, old-skool of the two, with frenetic beats and people generally going mental whereas Drum n' Bass is the general genre of which Jungle is a part.

Ok well here it goes Electronic Regge is called Ragga dub is a regge beats spead up the diffrance between dnb and jungle is QUITE large Jungle uses alot of hip hop samples and tends to be faster and keeps to a basic formula jungle then morphs into Dark Jungle (Techstep) wich is alot more dnb like as it uses more eletronic based samples and more eletronic based syth cords but is still fast now dnb is alot more freeform alot of eletronic samples and can be ALOT slower then Jungle but tends to be alot for creative if u want to compare get sum jungle and ragga tracks such as
Shy FX Orginal - Nuttah(ragga) Congo Natty - Junglist Man (jungle) Diselboy -anything by him (dark jungle) Kohseen - Suicide dnb/jungle (rides the border sampled heavily in the jungle comunity at the moment)
Photek - anything (dnb)

i went and researched those some the other day. from what i understand, jungle is a derivative from dnb. i found one sight on dub and it seems pretty cool the whole creation process of making it, without the like of sequencers, synths, and samplers, but real instruments and the use of recording equipment, microphones, tape decks, doing homemade effects i.e. recording your sounds in a room for echo. it seems interesting and doesn't sound to bad either.

dnb evolved from jungle not the other way around (not saying jungle is better just saying thats how things happened)
