Also: Consider the fact that you're probably never going to
vocally discuss Italo with anyone.

It's why people most can't recommend Autechre, they only
ever type it.

If you look at the acronyms next to the speaker symbol,
you'll realise that there are two pronunciations for British
English (BrE) and two for North American English (NAmE).

So it's more like a word pronounced two ways, twice. It's
like tear and tear but with different accents on it.

well brittish ppl are wrong they unnaturally calculated a
change in spelling and talking of language cuz they were
bitter about losing 2 the usa in the war. and the funny part
is they changed by copying the french language, and the
french ppl helped usa beat them. american is closer 2 the
real pronuntiation. ironic huh

It's interesting that you have an almost correct idea of
what happened, apart from the subtle distinction that the
English language (both as the Americans and the British
spoke it) had already moved on to something closer to
contemporary BrE pronunciation.

What really happened was that upon independence, our
transatlantic cousins intentionally reverted to (by then
already outdated) forms of pronunciation. You know, as part
of the Americans realising that there was a paucity of
culture, wanted to make themselves a new and distinct entity
(to further cement their independence) and recognised that
language was one way of doing this. So you're almost right.

It's hilarious that something so petty and trivial is enough
to make someone (I am not for a second suggesting it is you)
fabricate an alternative 'truth' about who changed what.

Side note: It was hilarious hearing a Vegas bar girl
complain that, "I can't understand the way you speak
English" to a friend who sounds like he does voice overs on
BBC Radio 4.

Did that seriously happen? US revolutionaries deliberately
changing their accents?

I find it hard to believe that it might have stuck on a
national scale, although you do see it with individuals. I
do know a few people (Torontonians) who deliberately add
slight Irish lilts and token words ("craic") to their speak
in order to big-up their dubious Irish heritage so that they
supposedly seem more interesting. I want to punch them.
