it's what i do. i'm always at least 5 years behind on what's good. because i can't be sure of if what is going on right now is good because it's good or it's just good because that's what's going on in the moment. so it seems after about five years the shit usually is forgotten and falls to the way side while the truly visionary and legendary and timeless shit stands up above the rest.
and why is it most every genre has a sort of hierarchy (that might not be the right word) like just for a tiny example, punk has rancid, nofx, pennywise, bad religion that all serve to really define the basic boundaries and limits of the genre. as with idm, we got aphex, autechre, boc, and square pusher that do the same within the genre. kinda sorta like gods to be looked up to and idolized and respected by every fan of their respected genres.
at one point i had every one of those punk bands album at the same time. but it is still a dream of mine to own every one of those idm artists albums. so far i only have aphex's cds.(just cds because his catalog is too massive outside that medium and alot of vinyl is out of print rare i can't afford them nor have the resources or time to track them down). and granted all those punk bands are from cali so it was super easy for me to follow from their inceptions. where as idm was a uk scene and it overlapped the time i was into punk.
idk why i felt the need to post this garbage. i haven't left the house in three weeks now. i have nobody to talk to i guess. and idm makes me sad when i listen to it. like, i want to kill myself and idm is so beautifully depressing, it honestly is the only thing that make me want to keep living. there's so much left out there to still discover. that's why i come here and bug you guys for new music all the time (or i guess old music rather). fuck, you guys all have it so good, you don't even know. i can't figure shit out. oh well, i hope i never stop posting here.

Sorry to hear you're down in the dumps.
If it's any comfort to you, i think 80% of the folks here are depressed.

Hey man great post, please get out more and have a blast. Hope to read more of you here. I've one question: why do you stay at home for three weeks? I hope not because you're playing with dub turbo ;-)

You say that truly visionary and groundbreaking works stand up above the rest over time. It depends on what you mean by standing up. How many people are still listening? How many new people can listen back to it and relate? Either of those cases is a mere matter of numbers. I'd be more inclined to define standing up over time as how intensely evocative the music stays or even becomes over time, is for the few/many who listen to it past it's initial creation. How many housewives still listen to Celine Dion? How many scuzzy stoners still listen to Seefeel? I'll bet the stoners could explain to you in a more convincing fashion what merits an album like Succour has to them over the wives any day
