I've found that this album sounds better when I imagine it is the soundtrack to a horror movie (not one with lots of zombies and blood, rather with strange things happening and mystery) or perhaps a catastrophy movie (like one with a nuclear disaster). Let's say it could be a movie by Dario Argento, like "Suspiria". Also it's better at night. The later in the night I listen to it, the better it is. |

Well they did mention in the Guardian interview that it referred to a soundtrack to an 80's VHS film, and, I agree, if you bear that in mind, it does conjure up a pretty convincing eco-disaster / apocalyptic / strangeness filmic atmos. It makes me think of (the original) Dawn of the Dead, and that sort of atmosphere. Light moments within the overall dread and the end of the world . |

Only just heard it yesterday eve for first time. It's way gloomier than I expected. I get all the Soylent Green-style vibes that people keep mentioning (or am I just impressionable?) So: Best way to enjoy it would be to listen to it while reading something a book that's really Malthusian or about a nuclear winter or climate change or some shizz yo. Actually that might just be scary. Don't do it. |

so far this album best works for me as single tracks from it dropping now and then, here and there, on my mp3 player while moving around my town, with mountains in the background. TH is mixed with other albums in playlist and it's nice when a boc track comes in between an exai or a MHTRTC track. it doesn't work that well in being-in-my-flat situation. maybe except for the morning coffee and looking out the window moment. |
