Yay...cheers for the link...:)...looks like a good issue...gonna have to try hard not to read it all online...
Have been getting Wired for years & have got a nice metre high stack; all with their colour coordinated stripy spines...looks pretty neat.
It's had a few rough patchs after it's early brilliance but it's been getting back on form recently...looking forward to picking up this issue as soon as it gets to the UK...I used to have travel to London to pick up issues of Wired when it wasn't so well known; thankfully they've got their distribution sorted out now...
My old pakistani newsagent used to call me "Mr Wired" in an odd german accent as I always used to buy WIRED & THE WIRE from him....not sure why he attempted the German accent tho...

Wired's content is great, but I think their graphic designers have some sort of rare colorblindness.
It seems like half their stories are printed with white text on a fluorescent orange background or some other bizarre combination. I read the online version, there are less headaches that way.

Agreed... had a laugh the other day when I saw a book called WIRED STYLE..all about how they achieve that "Wired" look...
Like...I could write that book in about 10 seconds...
1. Choose colour at random 2. repeat
Thankfully, their online style is more subdued nowadays....used to be like reading the inside of Tim Learys brain..

^...Ahh, the man himself...
nah...you sure it was last month?...I remember the Gibson article about Japan or singapore and an excellent one about his EBAY addiction (which got me addicted...) but can't recall anything in the last couple of months....There was a big Bruce Sterling piece but he bores me pretty much most of the time so I skipped it...
What was the article about?....I seriously need a RAM upgrade, my mem is shite...

Hmmm, it may not have been last month. I have to buy my copies off the stands b/c I don't have a subscription. It was an article on whether or not Tokyo is still the city of the future, considering the economic climate, etc. It's pretty fascination. Have you checked out the No Maps DVD yet?

It was you who introduced me to WIRE Jand in my "two good magazines" Thread. : )
Ive been reading some of it online cause i don't have any money but now im working again and i will start to buy that Mag.
I love reading a good magazine. Often i read about music and stuff im not even intrested in just because its well written and clever.
Got any more to recomend ?
You mentioned a guy called Simon Reynolds , i havent read his stuff yet but i will.
: )

I think Im going to pick up an issue of it. You guys make it out to be a very interesting magazine. If I do get it I will be into 3 magazines:
Electronic Gaming Monthly (I subscribe to that) National Geographic (I just got 2 in a row. I had to get that one on where they found that girl from like 15 years back)
Wired (Cuze you guys make it sound so cool)

Don't get THE WIRE & WIRED confused...they are 2 different mags...
THE WIRE is all about music...generally pretty obscure stuff...from UK...'Adventures of modern music' thats them....
WIRED is from US...is all about technology in general; check the web site for old issues of the mag, most articles are online as well to get some idea of it's flava....unique graphic-design (to say the least)...
shi: yeah, I remember the Gibson Tokyo piece now...think it might have been 2 or 3 months back...
It must be a quality magazine if it's got William Gibson, Douglas Coupland and Bruce "slightly boting" Sterling as sometime writers....
Think I'm gonna subscribe to GROOVES..would be nice to have something a bit lighter to read than The Wire...looks cool as well; I've had a peek at the German version (but couldn't understand much..)...

All I know is that WIRED has some sweet photography. In the current one, the article about Moby is really cool. He paints his suit all white and one pick has him standing in front ..facing a white wall -- his head is painted white and his black suit is messed up in white paint.
But yeah, they do the weirdest color combos. White text on flouresent orange. How come?

Just curious..... That stuff is kinda important.
Grooves for example always have very tasty cover art that makes you wanna buy it instantly but inside the layout is kind of boring.
Black and white and boring photos.
