i saw ultrademon on his twitter flashing some email from rephlex around last year. he gets on my nerves a lot cos he and zombelle (self proclaimed originators of seapunk - which isnt exactly true) have taken themselves very seriously. for a couple of years ive been following some of these people's music and i gots to admit they've been far more innovative with music than any of us boring grey idm dweebs, even going far enough to make at least some kind of social comment which was refreshing after a decade of things just being technically impressive.
but rephlex signing this shit got on my nerves. ive never liked ultrademon's style and the intended irony makes it worse. the sea thing is honestly genius (but really the blogosphere are responsible for the water + technology + 90s rediscovered vibe that he jumped on) but he dosnt do anything too impressive with it for me.

wow, every track on that mix sounded exactly the same...
i like that other mix by the dude you like, altho the levels in his mix are all over the place, but i can't figure out what links this to seapunk... i hear juke/booty and witch house.
but i've not been able to understand what music fits into seapunk anyway. the visual aesthetics are pretty obvious, but what makes seapunk music seapunk? is it just the silly innanet references or being part of the scene or wot?

oh no i didnt mean any seapunk thing there.i guess im saying that the times (the same climate that brewed seapunk) pushed things a bit and a lot ideas came together into innanet sounds. i like the bad levels and messy timing (i do like that mix man its got one mah songs in it in the middle somewhere) but i actually meant to link this - and now that im here this

nah i cant explain what exactly makes seapunk. its really sort of club plur basically. there are loads of dudes that make similar sounds and shit with that tropical feel but it just isnt really seapunk.

oh man the seapunk thing is big where i live. ive collected net art and bad bryce renders since i was 13 years old , and i am addicted to my tumblr feed cause its a source of that stuff , both new and old. ill link some at the end of this post. i am glad that this art exists it makes me laugh my fucking ass off and i dont know why, and its aesthetically pleasing/tranquilizing
its appearance as a 'style" now is awkward. and the music association seems random. i am amazed that there are politics surrounding who owns Bad Internet Art now . these must be the end days
check this guys stuff out

i think its that slowed down jazzy vibe, or what ppl were calling "chill wave" a few weeks ago, and some of that vaporwave stuff. "muzak", essentially. i love it . i also think drexciya is pretty seapunk for obvious reasons but they go beyond certain ranges and also certainly predate that whole thing

"What a completely unique mindfuck of an album. Someone had used "psychedelic" as a descriptor and that's perfect for me. It's like an acid trip that empties out my brain from age 13 to 19 in the space of one album. The gun cocking/blasts and rushing 808 hats = Master P/No Limit artists (Charge It 2 Da' Game lol), Juno-like arpeggios = Cygnus X, Sven Vath, Cosmic Baby and the German trance sound, "think" break, garbled divas and Korg M1 staggered organ lines are all the Living Joy, Blackbox, Queen Latifah protorave that started it off. The dial-up modems, "wind it up" sample in "Bahrain" and "is you rollin'?" round out the obvious. The imagery and blue hair are for the kids but there are some serious walks down memory lane to be had for rave scholars. It's remarkable though because while sampling is a key part to his tracks, the melodic "meat" such as the chords, basslines, stabs, etc. all sound novel and fresh and it's a bit spooky that a guy his age can channel "Accelerator"-era FSOL or B12 so cannily. I'm impressed."

"The title track from this EP by Ultrademon was first aired on BBC Radio 1's "In DJs We Trust" session by Toddla T. We'll let you decide if it's 80 bpm or 160 bpm and if this new genre of "seapunk" is closer to breakbeat, house, electro, techno, or dubstep. Monolith also steps in for remix duties...

i only say nice thing to seapunk this time. so much of boy synthesizer bass dubsteng was making music scene conservative. maybe the energetic art hipsters werent scared to sound silly and thats the reason s punk was a refresh.
i wish our own sound wasnt dying from give up
