New Squarepusher Album

Organ Grinder from my own little fantasy world on 2001-06-26 20:36 [#00011093]

Alright, i just bought the new Squarepusher today and here
are my thoughts on it:

1. Definitely the most complex fucking work Tom Jenkinson
has ever done!
2. Much more synthetic than previous SP works, but much more
complex. Definitely a far far cry from Selection Sixteen.
3. Although his work still doesn't sound jazzy like his
older works, it still has the principles of jazz, that
improvisational feel.
4. It is the loudest, most noisy work Tom J has done. Some
of the rushes on here definitely rival, if not, top, those
on Aphex's Richard D James Album.

How about you? What do you ppl in AFX Land think?

I have been waiting for it and i cant find it anywhere
dammit. CD warehouse didnt get it in for some reason.
Anyone going to see Tom in Kansas in August?

gotmeth from St. Louis, MO on 2001-06-28 04:06 [#00011161]

fuck yeah! i got it Tuesday, and have already listened to
it 5 times through. i fucking love this album! it's
definately like Big Loada Part 2, which was my fav. by him.
i'll be seeing him in Chicago in August.

map[warp/rephlex-aholic] on 2001-06-28 07:33 [#00011164]

yeah it's definitly his best album....his old style not that
kind jazzy kick ass, music is rotted one note ... not my
thing.
but the new....oh man i want see him live! but i can't, no
chance in the EU ...

Aron? from Canada on 2001-06-28 07:59 [#00011172]

I actully prefer his jazzier stuff.

rubbish john on 2001-06-28 11:14 [#00011183]

i'm with aron on this one.
i listened to some of 'go! plastic' and i thought it was
bloody mental. i can't say that i'm surprised - 'cos i sort
of guessed that squarepusher was an absolute loon before
this.
i do like his madness though.

streamer on 2001-06-28 11:25 [#00011185]

Style over content, I reckon.
"Listen to all these crazy sounds I can make with my
gadgets!"
Less is more, and all that business. I think it's a bit of
overkill.

Stevo from dont know on 2001-06-28 12:46 [#00011192]

Its banging!!!

Some noise hurt my ears! I dont like that.

Its my first Squarepusher album. Wich other albums should I
chek?

Organ Grinder from my own little fantasy world on 2001-06-28 16:26 [#00011249]

All i have so far is "Music is Rotted One Note," "Selection
Sixteen" and "Go Plastic" so far. I like both his styles,
personally. I guess it depends what sort of mood you're in.
My fave song by him has to be "My Sound" off "Music is
Rotted One Note."

His jazzier material, playing tape decks and such as he does
live improvised instrumentals, is what influences my live
performance style. Except my melodies are a bit more
pre-planned than his. :)

rubbish john on 2001-06-28 16:48 [#00011257]

stevo - check out "feed me weird things" and "selection
sixteen"

just one listen so far and we laughed & cried at it's
gorgeousness Put it this way, i've had FMWT for 4 years and
i still hear rhythmns i never heard before!!!. Its food for
the soul, like aphex....
also had the privelage of hearing some "go plastic" stuff
live in dublin....then went to barcelona to see him but he
was ill. I'd be sick if i made something so rich...(imagine
einstein after formulating e=mc.sqrd!!!!).

Aron? from Canada on 2001-06-28 18:33 [#00011267]

Big Loada is a good album. It has super complex beats and
nice melodies. But he also play his bass on some of the
tracks like Come on My Selector and Problem Child. I recon
Big Loada is my favorite album from Mr. Jenkinson. I'm
gonna go and get Go Plastic on the weekend though, and who
knows, maybe I'll like it more...

tune*mx on 2001-06-28 18:38 [#00011268]

OK, guys begin the Squarepusher experience with Feed Me
Weird Things. That's a very very good piece of his shit.

LeMoN on 2001-06-28 18:40 [#00011269]

anyone know the name of the song that is the video with the
little girl and her dog running around with the fat japenese
dudes chasing her? thanks

ross on 2001-06-28 19:00 [#00011270]

lemon..that would be come on my selector, big loada is the
first album i bought by him, got it two days ago, it's
excellent...my sound is my favorite song by him as well (or
at least the one i consistently always listen to on mp3)

Siamese Twin from Below Hell on 2001-06-28 19:22 [#00011272]

Well, I just got the album delivered this morning. And...
wow! It's fucking amazing. How the hell does he make that?
It's so complex! This is the first Squarepusher album I've
bought (although I burned my own compilation of his songs a
while ago on my PC) and certainly won't be the last!

bepmep from u.s. on 2001-06-29 00:04 [#00011304]

the video with the girl is 'cum on my selector'... fucking
awesome video. check out chris cunninghams other videos if
you can... 'come to daddy' 'window licker' 'only you' etc

rubbish john on 2001-06-29 11:15 [#00011343]

i have now listened more extensively - and it is the
bollocks.
it just kicks arse. hardcore shit with an edge of beauty.
this morning, i was on the train listening to it on my
walkman and i was lovin' it, and then some bitch asked me to
turn it down.
i did nothing but look at her with evil eyes.

al >< from dublin on 2001-06-29 15:44 [#00011372]

"Psultan" by Squarepushers a.ka. Chaos A.D (find it on "The
Braindance Coincidence") is the ultimate, squelchy
ass-kicker.....the end just goes on and on remorselessly.
Anyone else find it hard to find Chaos AD stuff out there?
I've asked every 'alternative' record shop in dublin to
order it! (mp3's?- i know, but to have the vinyl!!)

Organ Grinder from my own little fantasy world on 2001-06-30 19:59 [#00011578]

I'm glad you agree with me now, rubbish jon. :)

Anyways, if you bastards out there can't wait for new Aphex,
then get the new Squarepusher.

It is choatic audio beauty at its finest....
and it inspired me to write.........

An 11-minute track.
With about eight different tempos.
Not too impressive but a start.

I'd put it on my Angelfire home page, but it would take
about five days to get it uploaded to the site.

Siamese Twin from Below Hell on 2001-07-01 00:53 [#00011593]

That's nothing! I once made a 30 minute track. I suppose it
was more like one continuous album... but even though it
changed a lot throughout (to avoid it getting repetitive) it
still sort of kept to the song. Now - trying to upload THAT
would be a task!
