hello wondering how to get my bass more 303ish on a modular
guesswork ideas:
3 octaves in each sequence (for example 3 octave range in a 16 note sequence)
portamento switched on/off by separate gate D env for vca and filter with resonance turned up to taste
what about accent? theres an article by robin whittle of devilfish fame about the accent on a 303
but u know what i dont understand it fully or know how to translate that theory in a modular patch
discuss...............

Lyff Acid Edit 1 is a good example yeah? How to do that accent? Might have to take a look at that track under a spectrum analyser later and cheat
Any acid squelchy masters at this site or what yeah?

303 has a diode filter which although four pole sounds like a three pole. This will influence the character somewhat. (Actually they are trannies connected as diodes but hey - uber maths geek points ahoy: http://www.timstinchcombe.co.uk/index.php?pge=diode )
Also note that the waveforms are unlike their textbook equivalents. View a time domain plot of some open filter samples to see what I mean.
I'm sure you can get samples off the net or I can possibly dig some off the Akai if you ask nicely.
Doesn't accent just add a bit to whatever parameter it is (resonance?) if active for that step.
Thinking about it why don't you get ReBirth (it's free these days) and duplicate you simple pattern, etc then try to correlate your modular to the ReBirth model. As the sounds converge you should be able to figure it out.
You can record the raw waves too so that have saved me some effort!
My trick with 303 sounds is to use a gazillion single note samples with different filter/accent tweaks assigned one per key. Play your midi and you get different sounds at the same pitch. Now send pitch bend to set the pitch and by hammering different notes you get a wicked morphing sound.
Those skilled in the art may appreciate there are other similar methods to achieve this result.
Note that a sampler is used rather than 303 or a modular. Of course the fun really begins when the midi seq is doing the business and I use the multi-outs of the sampler to send some sounds via reverb, others via different tweakable fx for even more madness.
I tell a lie, I do use a 303... a SP303 (which I dare say is better of the two!)

>> i dont understand it fully or know how to translate that >>> theory in a modular patch what sort of modular ? are you talking about the thing where the guy says that rising&rising consecutive accents is what makes it sound like the sexy cries of an animal in distress?
