I've not used it, although I am aware of how it works and
TOR. Last week I was staying with one of the guys who was
involved in Bitcoin and we talked a fair bit about it. I am
really interested in the economics of Bitcoin as a currency
and what it "means" and how they managed to give value to
something that wasn't backed by anything of any real worth
(it's not even like the hashes used in mining it are like
finding new prime numbers, which has some inherent worth).

Silk Road could probably benefit from greater quantities of
'alternative' folk using it for wholly innocent
transactions. A bit like how when PGP came out, hackers
started using it for all communications to generate
more noise. At the moment, Silk Road seems to almost solely
be used for contraband, so setting up sting operations on
those using it isn't hard.
