Second guessing? Listening?
Does it matter if you don't know?

i was hoping for a less cuntish less humorous answer. does
it matter? why the fuck would i bother to ask otherwise?
this is not because i hate 26 mixes for cash, genuinly i
would like to know.

a lot of 80s albums are being "remastered" this yr i want to
know if ppl are being ripped off or not.

i appreciate i'm a fucking idiot 99% of the time, i was
hoping for a genuine answer on this one. thanks.

I was being silly as it's obvious it doesn't matter as you
can't tell the difference. You can't guess how anything was
intended to sound.

Ah ffs and to answer your question: i don't know. I don't
think you can unless it's a bootleg of a proper release and
you can actually compare stuff.

it DOES matter to me russ. this isn't about being an anal
idm wanker, this is about a technical side to music. it's a
genuine question, not an opinion i'm after.

Blimey this is some serious shit! Sorry, head.

And feel free to explain why it matters to you, appart from
wanting to be sure you listen to the highest quality
possible.

no, it's ok, i guess i didn't express myself in the right
way. And i should've realised the replys that i got.

*deep breath*

i'm after a technical answer. i blame WARP for the replies
so far. Wankers.

not to say i'm not against it, totally i am. over the past 2
years there have been numerous releases that apparently have
been sourced from soulseek users. it's about time this
stopped. i'm in contact with several labels and involved
with court cases over edsel & salvo fabricating "mastering".
and this week i get another one from demon.

for me it's fucking disgusting. if you pay for a product
that (well, at least) states what it does on the sleeve,
you're entitled to the best quality of what is available,
not just what they can afford.

there's a band who released a cd last week and (apparently)
nealry half of it was sourced from mp3s. i want proof.

and no im not a lawyer!

this is about misrepresentation, but it's also about
quality.

yes, there's definitely software out there to do this. just
ask around on torrenting forums, people are always griping
about whether a file really is one bit rate or another.

it's called spectrum analyzation - mp3s cut out certain
frequencies, and by looking at the frequencies present in
your file you can see what it was sourced from.

How do they remaster tracks is you exact question I
think..is that even possible without using computers
nowadays?

Well how did they find out about the 26 Mixes ones? Use the
same thing, what hedphukkerr says.

I have both boxes of Sapphire & Steel by the way, but then I
would.

I've made a mint reselling Retape's album under my own name
on Bandcamp, but that's another matter.
