Having done some work in the “base of the pyramid” ($1 a day people), there's an amazing amount of ingenuity, collaborative community stuff and general good vibes. They have a long way to go catching up to us, but we are hyper-advanced. Funny enough, Nigerians etc are excited for the future while westerners are wringing their hands. I say be happy for your kids mate. I wouldn’t focus on smaller things and miss the overall upward (steep!) incline of quality of life for the vast majority of civilization over the last ±100 years. Access to information for everyone who has access to electricity (about 80%) is off the charts. Apolitical response time to crises and general problem solving is mind-numbingly fast. And yes, 2012 Wémè vinyls are good listening ;) |
