Jexus/WC Olo Garb has been a staple of youtube synth videos
for years now. His vids were hugely helpful when I was
shopping around across a wide gamut of synthesizers.

For another classic synth channel, check out Max, who has a
great studio of rare and vintage gear, including a Waldorf
Wave, and never misses a beat or note with his playing. He
has a sort of "1980s" style that I really enjoy.
MaxMusicOne (more videos available on his channel)

ah thx man. makes me realise how undedicated ive been to
music making. i used to watch a fair few synth vids but
never found them very interesting. any more
recommendations?

I feel the same way about being undedicated. I'd grown
comfortable playing things mostly "well enough" and letting
software/quantization take care of the rest, but I've
recently grown into a hardware revival and hope to get back
to my previous playing skill of 5+ years ago where I would
practice every day.

As far as recommendations go I don't have any channels in
particular to recommend, except maybe SonicState if
you're interested in reviews of modern gear or a few
interviews with producers here and there.

Aside from the aforementioned videos I've just been watching
the same Microwave XT videos over and over as I shop around
for one at a good price. People say its capabilities are
dated by today's standards but I'm so tired of all this VST
softsynth rubbish that I'll do just about anything to get
out of the rut. (And the XT still sounds damn fine to me!)

im really not interested in gear. not because its
uninteresting but because its nothing to do with what i want
to do. now thats an insight into my self contained and
basically conservative nature really i think. sort of wish i
was more gogetter about music in some ways. i like this
stuff a lot because its like a trapped memory that the synth
knows how to talk about when fingered up by a talented man
with eyes that sees everything in synth. now thats what id
like to be able to do. still working on it - in reason 4

ykno i really get what you are saying with vsts. not that i
judge the dudes who use them at all, honestly i dont think
its a bad thing. but whenever i use them i feel stuck in a
rut too, cant explain it.
reason is reasonable. its synths are fab darling and i love
the limitations. tbh i cant think of a thing the THOR isnt
capable of but there are no shortcuts. you have to work with
it

hey nooge check this. i make it with only thor synths. i let
the synth go and dont really control it. only a bit of
automation but the rest is lfos and cvs LAZY_TITLE a lot
of it is inexperienced use of fm.

That sounds pretty nice man, and I'm not against people who
use softsynths either (I use a bunch, myself), but still I
feel they are lacking a certain "3D" depth to the sound that
is just very difficult if not impossible to find outside of
good hardware, at least for someone of my mixing/mastering
skill. I'm not an analog purist by any stretch but I do find
myself much more interested in hardware these days than I
was for the past few years.

staz and dave_g: I've actually been watching a ton of vids
from both of those guys and stupidly forgot to mention them.
I'm a big fan of both; cheers for taking up the slack.
