So before my aunt left back to Darfur, She spent 350$
on a pair of Monster Beats by Dre headphones for me.

Awesome considering my cans broke a few months ago.
However I'm not fond of it requiring batteries to operate,
and I feel she got ripped off.

I want to return them and get something better and cheaper
like some ATH-M50s or AKG K 550s, but since she purchased
them with a credit card, I can't get money back to get one
of the former pairs.

So, If I am stuck with these Beats by Dre,
are they any good? What's the battery life?

I haven't opened them yet just in case returning
was a possibility, which it is now not.

from what i've heard, beats sound great for bass-heavy
music, but are colored in terms of sound quality - they have
a built in eq, and are very boomy.

if you're looking for something neutral, you should be able
to slang them on ebay or something for a good price, seeing
as how popular they are at the moment.

Worse than Bose, almost as lame as Skull Candy and really
overpriced. I think they have some kind of built in Sonic
Maximizer type thing, or some doohickey generating low
tones... They don't just color the music, it's being altered
considerably. Your aunt seems like a cool lady, nonetheless.

Well they sound great. Bass is phenomenal, but it has it's
issues.
It's easy to forget and turn the damn things off.
As for the ultimate test, Venus no.17. I listen to that
daily during walks. It just didn't have the same punch as my
old headphones. Some of the melody is drowned out in the
beats.
As for the bass, sometimes it bleeds into the mid-high
range.
Then again, every pair of headphones I've ever had have had
their own subtleties.
Still very happy with these.
If returning them was a possibility, I'd have gotten
ATH-M50s but whatever.

I've got some Sony MDR XB700. Bit shit.

I'm torn between Senn HD25 and AIAIAI TMA-1.

I miss my Sennheiser HD590, even though the cord was shit.
Really looking forward to a new pair of HD695865995.
