never have experimented with spring reverb, but if you're into making plate reverb (not sure what you're after), tap lots of sheet metal with a coin until you find the one that suits you best. I think this is way more important than anything else. maybe the same approach for springs is a worthwhile experiment, a homemade solution probably is adjustable enough if you have time for it

Never heard of them being built before, it's a good idea though, in terms of the user interface, I'm not quite sure how you'd go about it.
