i've been thru a lot! this catalogs something like '93-'11

90s grunge/alternative
awful nu-mutal/rap-rock (the dark years)
manson/nin
local punk
radiohead/afx (mind explosion!)
idm
indie/folktronica
house & electro-house
wobble dubstep
post-dubstep/future garage/whatever

now it's just weird 80 bpm bass music and footwork. what's
next?

Interesting, I was into public enemy and NWA when i was very
young, possibly just 9 years old as i had an older brother
who influenced me. i used to secretly listen to it on my
walkman and was scared of my mum finding the tapes...

yeah! i had a good pal with a cool older brother who made me
some great tapes, too. i remember specifically boogie down
productions and geto boyz and epmd and ice T. i wonder if
they have any idea how much of a monster they created.
unfortunately i moved away at 13 and have no idea what
became of them. c'est la vie.

I forgot the Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam phase also.

In addition I forgot to add a period of time where I
listened to mostly Nurse With Wound, Zoviet France, Current
93, Death in June and so on.

la bamba, kriss cross, cnc music factory, boyz ii men, that
one muthafuckin tom cochrane track, random dance shit, then
atari teenage riot blew my ballz off with the sick to death
ep, then squarepusher/afx/ballz drum n bass jungle house,
then I downloaded Hasty Boom Alert on a hotline server in 97
or so and went out and bought a couple albumz cuz so fucking
good, then interested in mechanical toyish glitch chiptune
in 2000-2001 and gabber, started listening to much more jazz
and classical at this time from internet radio and also a
huge bossa nova and post-lounge boom for me (wasn't into
trip hop though, in the late 90's), then I just started
mostly listening to random youtube vids and posted links and
felt that nobody was making good music cuz all I listened to
was spam, and then i just listen to snippets of good music
every now and then, which is refreshing. Music can be nice.

i would say that ever since the internet happened, i finally
have the single most important tool to discover new music -
for instance before the internet i loved music but it was
mostly pop/rock/alternative/some hip hop.

phases before the internet were small, for instance 60s
psychodelic, led zep/black sabbath, 90s alternative, 90s
industrial - these were all funneled to me either by friends
or radio or TV.

now with the internet its exploded, there is a never ending
source of good music from different times, countries,
styles.
