Synergy: The whole of a cell is greater than the sum of its atoms. The whole of a human is greater than the sum of its cells.
But the whole of society is LESS than the sum of a human. A human is a rational sane agent whereas society is about forced memes, fail and tyranny. Society hates the individual human, its like society, made of humans, hates its constituent individual parts. This genetic retardedism is why social insects who are all cooperating clones or something and communicate with chemicals as a single sane entity will eventually out-evolve us.
Individual multicellular creatures just suck at organizing into sane patterns, lemmings do it too when they all fall off a cliff. Lemming society is like human society.

Batfuck insane and morally repugnant, to such an extent that he appeared to a caricature of a communist dictator in the "Cult of Personality" vein. Don't they breed people like him in special farms to provide enemies for 80s right wing action flicks? It's hard to think of him in terms of a real person that has passed on. He will be missed.
Time for the west to ally with South Korea, swoop in there and cripple them whilst they're in a state of turmoil, perhaps?

Attack a nation with nuclear weapons, a nation that is known for cultivating an extremely paranoid view of the outside world, with a new leader that has no previous experience, is the son of a paranoid nutcase, and just hope, HOPE he doesn't overreact and burn South Korea off the world's map?

After watching the vice special and the lisa ling documentery on north korea I started to realize that many north Koreans are not acting out some sort of indoctrination or propagandist belief.
Many people living there truly have a heart felt belief in the DPRK
I suppose after decades of eduction and brain washing there is no distinction between genuine conviction and pantomiming.
In Lisa ling documentary there is a surprise visit to a family in Pyongyang and the narrative is almost identical to the content of propaganda films. Even if the family was specifically picked by the party is still reflects how genuine the belief really is.

Isn't that the idea of indoctrination, though - making people believe, instead of just parrotting back what they know you want to hear?
Although we're getting into dangerous territory..
"I love cakes!" "No, you've been indoctrinated to think you do." "No, I haven't." "That's what they've made you think.." etc.

There is always the possibility that such an occasion is an excuse to let out emotions (if it's generally not acceptable to do so), so people indulge by pretending (perhaps unconsciously) that they're crying about the death of this very evil man.

While the influence of DPRK indoctrination can not be ignored for many of those living in north korea the world that the party has created is the total sum of exsistance.
There is a scene in the vice special where the "shane" is invited to play karoke he discovers that it's a south korean karoke machine and has american songs on it he proceedes to sing a sex pistols song and the north koreans act as though they're hearing something from an alien planet there really wasn't any curiousness per se.
If I were to speculate there is unhappiness among the north koreans about their situation but there is no perspective to illuminate possible reasons why if anything the average north korean would blame sactioms and not the oppressive regime in power.

That's kind of what I meant - real state-induced indoctrination and propaganda isn't about surpressing unthought, but completely replacing it. The partyline becomes part of the fabric of reality. Like you say, there exists no other world outside of what you know, there are no reference points.
In a way it's fascinating, it feels like Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four in practice (well, besides Stalinistic Russia, previously). It's doublepluscreepy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totalitarianism. It's not funny at all. But, if you realize that, it can still be made fun off. The Vice Guide to North Korea shows the absurdity of the country well.
