Need New Knife for Girlfriend

So my girlfriend expressed an interest in carrying a knife
with her to work. She used to carry my SOG Flash II. This
knife seemed to be along the lines of what she was looking
for. Although there were issues. The main issue was the
safety. She doesn't want to fumble around with a safety, and
I don't blame her. The length was ok, and also the styling
of the grip. She didn't want anything overly tactical
looking. Also, price point was another problem. She wanted
one around the same price as the SOG. Personally I don't
mind spending a little more on a nice one, since this is her
chosen defensive tool. I would just say it was $50 like the
SOG.

Can anyone recommend a folding blade without a safety?
Hopefully something with a stronger metal. Wouldn't want the
thing to snap if it ever saw use. The SOG has a groove in
the front which we both like. Seems to hold the hand in
place.

So far I have looked at this gerber knife. Any other ideas?

+1 best of 2011.

Clark; Unless she is prepared to spend some time learning
how to knife fight, this is a really bad idea. It is
laughably easy to take a knife off someone who doesn't know
what they're doing. In which case all you've done in that
scenario is provide them with a weapon and her with a false
sense of security.

A few girls I know carry small kubotans on their keyrings.
Again, you need to spend some time doing drills to properly
learn how to use it (In a Dojo, with someone who knows what
they're doing, not just watching youtube videos of it). I
would be much more in favour of my woman carrying one than a
knife.

If you really must go down the knife route, there are better
knives for the money than SOGs.

2 options:

1) martial arts (karate=no knife necessary)
2) stab her = no further expenses, no girlfriend, you're
free to spam the whole internet on any subject you want

Your girlfriend has increasingly creepy needs, Mr. Clark.

I would recommend Judo as a the basis for a lady's first
foray into self defence. It takes longer and a lot more
commitment for a woman to get to the stage where she can
have a good chance of fist fighting and kicking her way out
of being attacked by an (often much larger) male. Learning
basic grappling and a couple of throws will give her a much
better chance of putting her assailant down for long enough
to run away*.

*Which is all you should be doing to begin with. Save the
"teaching them a lesson" heroics for the people who make a
habit of fighting.

I favor a 15" Kahler-Klassen damascus steel butter knife
with a custom fitted basket-weave Grollbacher copper-resin
haft.

But seriously, what every woman should know is Savate, the
art of furious French foot fighting.

The French, they are a funny race
they fight with the feet
and make babies with the face

Like Karate, she's not going to get to the stage where she
has a fair chance of fighting off an attacker within half a
dozen one hour sessions. If she is prepared to invest the
time necessary for it, great.
