It has been tested in FL Studio 8+, Ableton, Cubase and
Logic afaik. Try using the non delay version for FL Studio
though, FL doesn't like the delay

When I get my gear up (i've just moved to a new house) I'll
definately try it out mr. FAH! tnx for making it! But I've
got one question: did you have to record the demo on tape? I
listened the whole mp3 but there was a lot of noise in the
background..

offline Fah from Netherlands, The on 2011-11-23 17:15 [#02424089]

Yes it was edited and recorded to tape, and recorded back to
mp3. Hence the Fahtacon demo "cassette" which was basically
made as a funny but neat addition to the package.

sounds kool, any chance of a mac version?

offline Fah from Netherlands, The on 2011-12-03 17:35 [#02424744]

As far as i know there isn't a possibility to write a vst
like this for both windows and mac, it seems like it's only
possible through separate development. Or maybe a Reaktor
version? How does that sound.

hey Fah

cant remember the whole proccess , but with pluggo runtime
(using max 4) you can create a patch that contains a VST
pluggin and use that au pluggo in logic.

just incase you didnt know :

to reiterate:

a max standalone can contain a vst.dll and can be rewired
into logic on mac or cubase pc ,the standalone patch can be
run off max runtime it is free to use, so anyone can use it
, mac or pc.

you can create a plugin , instrument or stand alone (rewired
) with max

I've heard about that yeah and i've kept suggesting mac
users to do that but somehow most of them always just sort
of pretend i didn't say that or something..

hey fah

i made a max patch for you (pc only on this one as id need a
wrapper or something for mac) but it is possible.

anyway its a fun patch to try out. the maxpatch contains
your vst synth , you rewire this patch to cubase or
(whatever your sequencer)
instructions:
download install max 5 and also runtime here
max 5
you need your synth .dll's inside C programs steinberg/vstplugins folder ( not inside steinberg/'cubase'/vstplugins)

once done resart windows , first load cubase then load up max, then assign your midi track to your synth and also turn on the rewire channels for the fahsynth. ( i called it fahsynth lol :P )

once all the rewires are done send some midi notes to the synth and then modulate from within the maxpatch. I only had time to connect up LFO to control 'VCO1pitch' with 'lfoAmount' and a toggle to turn the LFO off and a main level control. There is also vst timeline info inside max and transport control . There is a test tone inside the patch, just so you can check rewire is working ( to see if sound gets into cubase)

here is a zip of the PC fah-synth patch aka Fahtacon

fahsynth

your probably very busy to try it out , but it was fun
making it work inside max , this whole thing works the same
on mac, but you'd need a wrapper or '.vst' version of your
synth not a .dll

hope you make it work and you enjoy max.

peace freqy : )

some of those ad banners are trying confuse.

also you can access your UI , by double clicking the
fahsynth module inside the max patch, but i added 4 dials
just to show how max works.

you may have no use for this patch but its interesting all
the same.
and the whole idea was just a nifty way to get your vst
working on a mac, this was just a test to demonstrate the
principle. lol ;p

I am indeed currently very busy but i will take my time and
take this brilliance in later today and probably even share
it on the Fahtacon facebook if you don't mind?

sure man, its only an insight into using a vst inside max.
its not a finished product in any way. its interesting all
the same. peace : )

bump

tested it today and I must say it's wicked and cool, lots of
happy knob twiddling possible.

Funny thing is I put the vsti in what appeared to be a
doggy/dodgy instance of FL8 and it just freezed/died while
recording a track I'd been making and then recording in the
background with AAudition. so I was switching patterns
without cursor moving, blindly counting tempo and bars in my
mind, waiting for the whole thing to crash any second. it
lasted as long as I wanted though xD , recorded 20'. peace

Yeah i have noticed it can be a bit wonky, it has nearly
broken one of my own FL tracks as well, but i think FL just
can't really handle it. Or at least the version with the
delay.. I recommend you refrain from using the delay version
:P

I am planning a new version (with patch presets and just
some more midi implementation) and i'm going to see if i can
sort of fix this heaviness of it all.
