is there a hardware midi controller that has tons of keys, or better yet buttons. what i mean more precisely is, what has the most keys or buttons (that can be assigned to pitches for example) in the smallest space. i need at least 100 keys or buttons, any help appreciated. i know, shouldn't be using midi etc... but there you go.

if there is one that's actually compact and not too heavy, that would be cool though... thing is, with 100+ buttons, you really need an efficient but not too 'crowded' layout. quite a design problem, wish there was a modular midi controller platform that you could build up like legos, then you would have a really superb, custom solution. given that the platform itself was well done.

http://www.faderfox.de/mark/index.php?option=com_content&vi ew=article&id=135&Itemid=177 is getting there.. the kinda thing... just lotsa on/off switches for inputing several microtonal notes simultaneously (for instance), don't even need velocity really

there's a scene selector on that one, does that mean it'll do (64*amount of scenes)? kinda hard to make out from just the picture.

maybe a handful of novation launchpads, I dunno. i know they're primarily an ableton thing, but from what I understand they do midi shizzle as well

a monome. Or alternately, something like Livid DIY kit. Livid also sells assembled modules that you piece together and connect to a processor, so you don't need to do any actual soldering.

Why shouldn't you be using midi?
