i don't like it.

it's fucking harsh man. i can't think of a better word to
describe it than HARSH.

sure i appreciate amazing musicians like miles davis, but
i'm still not a fan of THE MOTHERFUCKING TRUMPET.

as far as i'm concerned some mentally handicapped person
probably invented the instrument and thought it sounded
"great" and by some strange twist of fate it became a
popular instrument.

i actually like most brass instruments like the trombone and
tuba, but there's something about the HARSHNESS of the
trumpet that gets on my nerves. it's just NOT beautiful --
actually a lot of the frequencies get on my fucking nerves.
fuck the trumpet.

discuss.

I've the same problem with electric guitars..I hate the high

young..

It all depends on the frequencies and blend you are after.
Trumpets are traditionally used to get your attention within
an orchestra to punctuate the composition not be beautiful.

My ex girlfriend plays Viola and sits directly infront of
the trumpets. They played lots of opera and the trumpets
usually start the piece off as an introduction, a few death
scenes and at the finale. They could go for a pint next
door sometimes whilst the opera is being played.

imagine how cool it'd be if miles played the piano like this
on all his compositions:

bill evans performing miles' nardis.

fucking 'ell.

That's a typical American way of over using everything, it's
like a false smile.

soon as you can.

I like it. I dislike the dull sound of the saxophone, for
instance.

well seeing as only the love boat theme can make my balls
moist, i would have to play the love boat theme 24/7 in
order to keep my balls moist (which i am not willing to do)
at the moment. at the moment.

it.

I get what you mean. Miles must have the harshest trumpet
sound btw. Here's some Lee Morgan :) The compression is
terrible though, and the album version is better but well,
needed to post some Lee Morgan :)

I guess in jazz trumpets were chosen because when you play
with drums and without amplification you're more likely to
be heard with a trumpet (and it did all start without amps).
Plus they're easy to carry, and you can learn @ the army.
Actually there are loads of reasons. You just need
instruments that cover different areas of the spectrum.

i once worked for a woman, who played the trumpet and was a
lesbian. for some reason we discussed hand-shells and she
once asked me if i'd order hand-shells from a gun-shop for
her (which i didn't do, cause i had little money on the
bank). anyway .. the moral of the story is: she was a harsh
woman playing a harsh instrument.
