This guy was a bit of a genius on the synths back in the 70s with the crazy Gong group, some of their back catalogue is worth checking out, beautiful ambient stuff and downright silly stuff sometimes too. Check out this track from Tim Blake called Synthese Intemporel |

I've heard some Gong and yes it's pleasant and silly/mad at places but haven't heard much ambience in there. I heard their albums from ~1973-1974, not that mind-blowing really. |
