Im still confused about this prepared piano thing. Is it a special piano you attack stuff to or can you take a normal piano and do stuff with it?

Prepared piano is traditionally a regular piano that has been physically alltered. i.e. Say on a grand piano you can open the top and lay pieces of metal wood across the strings, de-tuning the strings, interchanging the strings.
This is what richard did but he didn't actually play the piano, he used CuBase/Logic to trigger the midi Piano.

Are you talking about a midi-grande?
Midi piano's can be hooked up to your computer via midi cable and programmed to play a pre-determined sequence of notes, or controlled using a midi controller.

sweet!! that would be awesome then using a midi piano. have the comp play it for you. thats too cool. I thought about the idea of drowning all the strings in water (after covering the inside with plasting) then keeping the whole peice on sustain. man...so many ideas!! :)

it doesn't have to be a grand piano - an upright would do
