I feel elusive. Compression is fuck. Flying Lotus ruins all his shit the same way, Scott Herren too. comp/limit used judiciously can bring out nice details and warmth but these genitalmen use it like a Marshall stack and it's grating. |

actress is a good example of someone who does it to perfection, same with amon tobin from my viewpoint. most hiphop is clearly overcompressed to make it sound fat, same with fly lo, he does it with some elegance tho. |

Most hip hop uses a smoother EQ or different sounds than stuff by Tobin and FlyLo though. It's not as KZZZZZZZZSCSCHSHHCZZZZZZZ There's a couple Actress tracks I don't like because of the pumping (at least the EQ is nicer). I think a lot of this stuff is engineered to sound good on a bus or subway on an ipod. You kids get off my lawn *hobbles back into garage with aluminum frame walker* |
