I've been following this thing for a long time.
Teenage Engineering have done a very poor job showing this
machine making good music. I tried to find a decent video of
it in action making GOOD music but I lost interest when I
saw the price and saw the 20th video with dodgy synth
noodling... very poor show chaps!

It looks like it could be tremendous fun to use and the
concept is certainly quite neat.
It costs far too much money for what it is.
$800 == £500.

I bought a Boss (Roland) SP-303 for about that half price
some years ago. The OP-1 should cost about the same as that
for me to start to consider it.
There are lots of decent synths that look a bit toy
like,Casio SK-1, EDP Wasp, etc so it may end up being quite
good, i.e. don't be fooled by its appearance.

I've yet to see polyphony specs and technical details about
how it works under heavy load (i.e voice stealing, how many
fx at once, etc). I couldn't care less about the CPU clock
speed, which is fairly orthogonal to performance seeing as
it could have sloppy coding or the CPU may not have DSP
functions on chip which would really help with digital
audio.

I've never seen one in the flesh so my opinion may change if
that changes. It looks very flashy and it might be hard to
make objective decisions about this thing as the display and
interface is so fun. However I'm yet to hear an audio demo
where it beats the good old classic portable, the EMS
synthi:

Synthi goodness :-)

The funniest video I saw was an "unboxing" (god we live in a
sick world) where the guy drooled over every aspect of the
packaging but stopped short of doing anything with the
fucking thing.

this is the most encouraging vid i've found so far...

Ah, that is pretty cool. Looks like fun and sounds good.

I wonder how cheaply this could be sold if someone like Korg
bought him out and mass produced it on the scale of the
Electribes?
