personally i like his early works... they are more
interesting considering they came from a mind of a man going
thru his prime... something i cant say myself

Someone asked me what would be a good "first" Aphex album to
get, and I told them to buy Polygon Window - Surfing the
Sine Waves. I figured it would be easy on virgin IDM ears.

the new stuff cant be beat cuz it cant be heard... so says
rdj... yet the "addicts"... for lack of another term... of
aphex always have a fav. no matter how old or new it is...
stuff that has been proven to be a hit is always a hit...
unless it is changed in a better way... it cant be beat in
its own pool of music

The more I listen to (and I'm listening to a lot more now
guys...) I do prefer the old stuff.

Old, Mid & New....it's all about recongising when each
release was...and hearing the development between them...

I'm lucky, I've been in AFX since day one so have been able
to follow the flow pretty easily...and also it's cool to
know what sort of musical era each release was released
in...

Then again, I'd probably like the sound of AFX flushing the
toilet so I'm not the best guy to ask...;)...

Do you think that some of the stuff on SAW 85 -92 really
dates back that far? I'm not whether I swallow that.

both are good... i got introduced to aphex twin by drukQs...
i like it as much as older stuff (i don't have SAW I so far,
only some mp3s...), even if i listen more often to ICBYD...
it's just different. :)

i hope he'll find another style for the next album though...
(like he always did so far ^^)

everything, it doesnt matter to me.

Though doesn't Richard have a trademark of releasing stuff
well after he has made it? I heard RDJ Album is all very new
but isn't most of Drukqs like 2 to 4 years old or something?
And the year of creation for the tracks on ICBYD varies
somewhat from year to year. Maybe he is just lying? I'm
confused :0)

Maybe Richard's Mother is the one who really makes the
music?!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the time it was
made/released doesnt matter to me, thought couldn't he be
shitting us? The stuff from Selected Ambient Workd 85-92
could have all been made in 1991 and Drukqs could have been
made in 1985! Probably not but you get my point...
(Hopefully!!)

Selected Ambient Works, my typing skills fail me :)

It doesn't matter to me either when it was made. It's just I
like all the stuff from RDJ onwards much more than the stuff
before it, so I guess I like 'new' stuff. :o)

Drukqs is his compilation of the last few years I do believe

Uuuuuughhhh Fucker!!! You make me mmaad! mmmmmaaaaAAADDD!!!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMMAAAAAADDD!!!

easy, Mongo!

erm, I've listened to Drukqs more than any other Afx CD I
have. The first one I got was SAW II. All of the earlier
stuff is great for falling asleep too. Really peaceful and
soothing.
The new stuff is excellent for any other time of day though.
It's just amazing, and the production is A1.

Today I had a real nostalgic aphex mood. Listened to surfing
on sine waves, saw 85-92, On etc. I like both the new and
the old stuff, but the old tracks have this feeling, this
atmosphere. I can't describe it. Peaceful is probably the
best word. Tracks like Polygon Window, Xtal, If it really is
me make me all happy and in total harmony.

But I'm probably weird :)

all is good, but nothing beats his pre-1996 releases, the
new stuff's good, just not great like those were
