PATTERN RUNNER PATTERN 4 (THE GARDEN)
ty[ing w 1 hand cuz im eatin tacos, i love this. wish modplug could create lush sounds like this. its my main problem. its apparently not a single wav playing at different pitches (like modplug) cuz the note sound goes
bwaaaaaaawuhwuhwuhwuh and the wuhwuh part is comes at the same time regardless of pitch. (rather than being time warped cuz a wav played in higher pitch happens in less time) fruity loops?

The melodic ones near the top are my favorites and quite nice (I think I have late acting melody genes or something). The percussionish dominant ones seem less interesting and aggressive than some of your old tracks (which often kicked ass). The percussiony ones kinda say what they said in the first half then needlessly go on 2wice as long imo and are kinda muddy and a bit repetitive. They all have interesting sound quality way better than I know how to produce. Kinda reminds me of the sound quality of eyes of stanley pain, I guess that's just fruity loops still?

wow thanke ye mWm I agree with about 95 percent of what you said...the top four songs are tests for a film that I am working on. each title represents a different location. I am using fruity studio and sound fonts, which is sampled instruments at a very high quality...
as far the agressive songs are concerned you are right on the money again download is still my biggest influence but have been digging recent CLARK stuff...which is very close to vintage download IMHO
the muddyness is partly intentional partly a bit stuck with a shitty soundcard on a new PC I bought which sucks :(

can u name such a clark song or album 'sound fonts' is a program inside FL? I wish modplug had some sort of way to create/control sounds themselves inside of it. Instead I usually find some shitty wav buried on my hard drive to use or record some sound from some random youtube video, that's a big problem with tone/melody sounds because you never know what exact pitch they're in. Maybe auto tune or melodyne can fix that though.
Then there's the additional problem that modplug pitches make no sense. You load a wav and it's almost always set to key g#, even if its a different note.
I hate anything like a 'piano roll' where time goes sideways rather than downward like modplug. Its so obvious and simple to copy paste bits of the entire pattern in modplug so its great for making intricate beat patterns, but sucks at the sounds themselves.

I might just have to make my own damn music software eventually rather than try to deal with all the piles of bloated web 2.0 music software out there.
Fruity loops practially begs you to pirate it because if you buy it legitimately, you only get like 2 working plugins gizmos. The rest are trial half working stuff, often not marked as such, thus making finding the ones that actually work needles buried in a haystack of trial crap. Plus its so full of web 2.0 that I'd probably never want to use it. Everything looks like it was made with flash. It should feel like a blank canvas where the interface is as simple as possible rather than a barrier full of graphical 'skins'. I even hate that sound that plays every time the program starts. *I'm* supposed to be making the sounds, not forced to hear something FL composed every time it starts.

sounds fonts are a bit hard to explain without wikiing it
SoundFont is a brand name that collectively refers to a file format and associated technology designed to bridge the gap between recorded and synthesized audio, especially for the purposes of computer music composition. SoundFont is also a registered trademark of E-mu Systems, Inc., and the exclusive license for re-formatting and managing historical SoundFont content has been acquired by Digital Sound Factory.[1]
SoundFont technology is akin to software sampling. A SoundFont file, or SoundFont 'bank', contains one or more sampled audio waveforms (or 'samples'), which can be re-synthesized at different pitches and dynamic levels. Each sampled waveform may be associated with one or more ranges of pitches and dynamics. Generally speaking, the quality of a SoundFont bank is a function of the quality of the digital samples and the intelligent association of samples with their appropriate pitch ranges. Quality is also dependent on the number of samples taken for a given range of pitches.
SoundFont banks are tightly integrated with MIDI devices and can be seamlessly used in place of General MIDI (GM) patches in many computer music sequencers. The sound quality of SoundFont banks is generally regarded as superior to standard GM banks,[citation needed] and many SoundFont banks have been created specifically to replace GM banks with samples of each correspondi

so soundfonts are not native to FL but can be accessed through a plugins... you might be able to find a SoundFont player for modplug not sure but once you have it there are tons of high quality free soundfonts available...with the recent version FL has included a SF player which is pretty good as it doesn't tax and overload the RAM as much as some of the third party plugins used to
and yes I agree about the dearth of plugins they give with FL it is rather frustrating that is why I mainly use it as a staging area and use a lot of free vst plugins for synths and effects...the downside is the aforementioned RAM issues

The clark tracks are ok imo but not really resonating with me as much as eyes of stanley pain on first listen at least. I checked and modplug has bad soundfont support. There's a vst for them but seems complicated and someone said it doesn't work great either. I wonder if auto-tune is free since I could make, say, a c note out of any tone-ish sound and know that its a c note.

clark grows on you his current sound is very textured and raw sounding a big contrast from the standard warp/idm obsession with crystalline crunch..which I also enjoy but I love the dirt and grit on clark
hmmm i would still recommend trying the sound fonts if you can get a hold of a good plugin to use with your modplug, imho every crappy sound soundfonts sound miles better than the standard hits and loops
