I would like to go snowboarding for the first time! I went
skiing once in Italy when I was a child and enjoyed it but
at that age you don't appreciate what you're doing that
much.

I will hopefully go skiing and snowboarding this summer in
France, woman permitting.

How about you mo? Have you been snowboarding?

it's really good fun but a bit painful at first. the first
day you will be learning to drift on your heel and toe edge
and then link the turns together. you will be trying to slow
down all the time so this burns your leg muscles. After you
get more confident linking your turns, cruising, using the
lifts etc you will start to enjoy it.

some advice: the way you choose the size of the board
depends on your height and weight, but keep in mind the
longer it is the faster it will go. if you want to do tricks
etc get a shorter board, a board which is level with your
chin will be ok. size calculatortry to get a board which is
fairly flexible, if it's too stiff you won't be able to do
butter tricks very easily. check youtube for butter tricks.
they are good fun for novice boarders

stick to the green runs and never sit down around a blind
bend! ;)

i'm going for the first time tomorrow, and i'm trying to
plan a couple goings a months with a couple of friends. to
make some physical movement for the sake of god. we've tried
to go a couple weeks ago but we found all plants closed due
to rain. the only time i've tried skying were 12 or 13 years
ago, when i was in the army. mind you, that time i've got a
pair or very heavy skis made of wood dating back to the
second world war, but i remember i had good fun anyway. the
place was pretty cool too (Sestriere, Milky Way).

i'm destroyed, pretty cool shit it was. i've learnt to drift
on my heel and toe edge like you said larn, and to turn as
well. still while going down straight, once you take some
speed it's difficult to turn the back downstream in order to
brake with the toe. it was the first time though, i think i
did quite well

the only thing i couldn't stand were the bindings (a took a
pair for rent with the board and the boots), and i lost at
least 1 hour thru the whole day trying to close em. it was
more tiresome than skying itself. i'm thinking to buy my own
board with proper bindings.

thad: there wasn't many people but my radar spotted more
than a cool chick. they were a few but truly hawt :)

ill go back next saturday, to Monte Bianco this time

if you want continue and do decide to buy your own board,
keep an eye out for demo days at your local hills. ski/board
companies will roll in with their top of line and let you
ride for free for a day (saves you the cost of rentals!) to
promote their wares.

give a few different brands a try and see which you like the
best, then make your decision. a beginner board should be
nice and soft, and prolly a tad on the short side for
control. don't judge based on rentals as they almost
universally are years old and beat the fuck up.

although i would actually recommend getting a good pair of
boots first - rental boots are complete shit. i'll ride on a
rental board/bindings for a day, but a couple hours in their
boots and i'm ready to quit.

the bindings you'll just get better at. a lot of hills have
step-in bindings for rent, altho i haven't ridden in a few
years (broke/living in california) and dunno if they've gone
out of style, as step-ins provide a lot less control.

thanks for the info, m8
yes for the boots and the bindings first, they were really
shit
they took half of the fun away, but it was nice all the same
cos it was the first ride. they were the ones with the
saw-toothed straps that you jack up tooth by tooth, dunno if
i explained it well. i've thought about getting a shorter
board too, it would be easier to control, makes sense
check this out, sold out already

The rental equipment is always shit where ever you go, but
if you buy everything yourself it's allot of money. if i was
you i'd think about the boots and bindings because you want
to be comfortable. when you get better you can spash out on
a decent board etc.

i used flow bindings when i was in france, i don't know if
they have made a better system in the last 5 years , but
they were pretty good at the time. You can get in and out of
them really easily

ive never used em but a few mates rate them, tho i
understand they can be prone to fail every now end then, but
that may be an issue that has been resolved in newer
models.

shit hot mo, looks like a bloody nice place to go!
