Canadian actor and comedian Leslie Nielsen has died at age 84. Nielsen died of pneumonia at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Regina native was admitted to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 12 days before his death. “It’s very sad,” said Doug Nielsen, nephew of the famous funnyman. “But he died peacefully, surrounded by his friends, his family and his wife.” He made his mark as a comedian with a breakout role in the film parody Airplane! and again with the 1980s trilogy The Naked Gun, The Naked Gun 2 1/2 and The Naked Gun 33 1/3, all of which were based on his six-episode television series Police Squad! At one point in Airplane! Nielsen’s character is asked: “Surely, you can’t be serious?” to which the actor replied (with deadpan expression): “I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.” This line became among the most memorable of Nielsen’s career and made it on the American Film Institute’s list of top 100 movie quotes. Nielsen was the recipient of a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame. He had been living in Florida at the time of his death. |

: ( : ) a very funny scene I remember... when he is hanging outside of a tall buildings ledge at night, so scared to fall to the city street below, hanging onto (of all things) a statues private parts, moaning at the stress and fear of the situation. Then a woman looks out of her window and naturally just thinks he is a raving pervert after her body trying to look into her apartment , so she starts kicking him off the building. what film was that off? naked gun? |
