Drukqs

Does anyone else think that the first part of Drukqs is
some of Aphex Twin's finest work ever? I think it's
probably my favorite disc of music released by Richard James
so far. I really like that old toy dulcimer(pictured on the
cover?)that he tinkers with in 'Jynweythek Ylow' etc. and
the romantic piano arrangements... The whole thing's
amazing.
The second cd is another story entirely though. To me it
sounds like a bunch of cluttered outtakes and old scrapped
material.. Someone told me that this had something to do
with Richard fufilling a contract with Warp so that he could
leave. Does anyone know anything about that?

I think there's been like 50 threads on this before. Anyway,
I also think that Drukqs is rich with filler and that it has
some stunning music, but IMO it's not divided that way (1st
disc cool and 2nd disc sucks). In fact, second disc has some
fantastic tracks (taking control, for instance). But I'm
known for disrespecting Drukqs, so let's hope someone else
answers your questions.

I know the part about the contract is pretty reasonable.
And I think Drukqs has a pretty high rank on my list Good
AFX. Especially the first disc...

Drukqs is great but I still like Classics and his Caustic
Window stuff more or equally...

I think it was an ok album, especially tracks like Vordhosbn
and Cock/Ver10. Dunno bout the fillers though. I guess if
the whole album was fast shit then it would be even more
difficult to listen to.

Geogaddi was Warp's best release since then IMO.

the afx commercial boom comes with DrukQs, but it's to
late.. sadly.

they should have cut out half the tracks and made 1 great cd
instead of 2 ok ones...but then again, if that was released
instead and i heard rich left 15 tracks out, i would be
upset even if they were crap!

i agree with you meho...

i think there's a sad total of 10 tracks i like off of
it...(both cd's) and i think that the second disc isn't as
good as the first...i think that practically all double cd's
are this way...

here's another thought...when nin's the fragile was produced
it was a major failur because Trent Reznor wanted to retire
with his "closure" vhs, and waited about 4 yrs b4 realising
a full length...and it turned out to be a double, that
comercially bombed...i LOVE it persoanlly, but if you look
at the facts, a over priced 2 cd that doesn't have enough
chart toppers, won;t do very well...

let's just hope rdj does do the whole scheem nin did with
the live dvd/cd/*special double live cd* releases....i whent
to my local cd store and saw that the double live was $29.99
american...ouch for trent...AND he spent WAY to long on this
project...one shouldn;t release a live set like he did so
long after the tour was over.

This board is SCHIZO...

One minute it's moaning about how Lazy rdj is and he should
release more stuff..
The next it's moaning about there being too many tracks on
Drukqs...

And you wonder why rich doesn't come here often...

we're kinda schizo, allright, but he's partially to blame
for this.

but, still, judging from drukqs, I could do without hearing
every digital fart he's ever made. Tho, I don't mind if
other people do want 'em.

its nice he decided to reinvent himself in a pianoy
guise..but most of those piano pieces suck!

do not say they suck... plz they aren't of your liking, they
are simple & short but they are intended to be like that,
also listen properly to some of the tracks and you'll hear
he plays a lot with the reverb and panning effects and some
of these effects are breathtaking imo

offline Bob Mcbob on 2002-04-10 12:02 [#00165463]

im not saying there put together badly, im just saying most
of them are more boring than actual real classical :P

once again they aren't intended to sound classical music you
know...

in the past. As you can see, I'm a meager 53 pointed little

Disc one is also my favourite!! The piano pieces which i
know some don't appreciate are AMAZING to me.

i dunno if i agree with putting all the best stuff on one
disc or not, because for me the more aphex the better. so
what if it's not the BEST, i'd rather have mediocre stuff
from richard than a whole pile of 'good stuff' from some
less interesting artists.
MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE!!!

i feel like i'm privy to some of his experiments on some of
the tracks....thats cool to me =0)

Anything rdj puts out is worth liking in some form or
another. That's just my opinion. Instead of me griping about
how many tracks there are and how some of them suck, i look
at it like the c.d. as an experience meant to be the way it
is. I think Drukqs is one of the most ingenious pieces of
music and should be experienced "as is" for how rdj wanted
us to hear it. Just my opinion though, dosn't really mean
too much:)

disc 2 has 54 cymru beats, metaphace 6, and my personal
favorite, ziggomatic v17, so I disagree with you

Both discs are pretty equal i think. I couldn't just have
one without the other. I love the album but I don't think
it's his best work ever.
