Am i the only one on this messageboard for electronic
music, who thinks the buildings by this guy are ugly? I
guess his buildings look like how people from the early 20th
century imagined, the future would look like. I also guess
his buildings are the IDM of architecture..

yea probably

i do think a lot of post-modern architecture, or just
architecture nowadays is stupid and pointless. just like
with most art

That's a weird thing to say about Le Corbusier, though,
since his concerns were mostly utilitarian, and form follows
function etc.

Also he isn't "post-modernism" he is actually one of the
first people to contribute to what was modernity. The shift
from modernism to post-modernism did not come about until
around the time of hyper-capitalism (the general though is
around the 1980's). His buildings may not look amazing but
he was one of the great contributors to a period when
architecture began to become critical of itself and started
to realize that it played a major role in cultural
development as well as the way we humans interact with each
other. I wouldn't say he was a form follows function kind
of guy either, that was more of FLW's ethos. Corbusier was
more concerned with generating a solution to the
homelessness that spawned from WW1 and WW2 that would be
cheap and easy to build. Modernity was also about
destroying class, so the use of ornamentality was generally
frowned upon ( this was a thought brought up by Adolf Loos.
)

le corbusier is the greatest architect ever... or at least

his architecture and urban theories have yet to be improved

He may have had good intentions when he invented the
projects buildings, but that doesn't count, they are just
ugly piles of concrete and bricks.

I agree monoid: his buildings are Ugly (the buildings I see
when i google pictures of him) but the IDM of architecture?
Thats sounds pretty stupid. Some IDM has great architecture/
soundscapes.

Now THAT's what I'd call a human habitat! Just imagine the
kinds of buildings you could connect that to.

i know it's not the right time period. but isn't part
of post-modernist things modernist looking things in the
post-modern time anyway?

what exactly does post modern mean to you big? They're not
post modern because post modernism isn't modernism, and le
corbusier is a modernist architect. They're not just labels,
I mean, they're metanarratives, they try to account for
general shifts in thought et al. It's clear to that there
are big differences in thought between people in the first
half of the last century to those living in the 1980s for
example. This guy was born in the 1880s, ha!

monoid, suck a dick.

the non-straight lines and the organic forms make me think
of post-modernism

you're right though

The grey concrete is fuckin ugly. The windows or whatever
that on side is, are completly useless and make this thing
look like a prison. The clumsy building looks like it was
designed with Lego stones.

liked it.

My friend tried to write music in accordance with le
modular, not sure how far he got. interesting idea i
suppose.

I was talking to big :)
I didn't know about the monastery, it looks very neat, and I
guess more Corbusier-like.
