To buy or not to?
The 30 sec snippets suggest it may be longwinded and not
very varied.... Anyone care to shed some light?

It's essential. Pretty much a starting point.

Starting point? It's his whole discography man.

Anyway yes, it's super. I actually prefer the mastering on
the original version of POP though.

Starting point for the genre I mean. If you're looking for
variation though, maybe not. But this is for lying in bed in
the dark to. Mesmerising stuff.

I say buy! Found the box set brand new on ebay for some 15£
or so a few months back. Believe me, it's worth it. I tend
to like the two discs in the middle, with perhaps
Koeningsforst as the biggest favorite. Anyway, there's a
nice piece of electronica history for you right there in
that neat, practical, blue little box. You deserve it, so go
buy now! :)

Everyone, except maybe the Advocat (??) seems to love love
it!
So should I switch off my brain, and jump?

Its not something you can sit there and walk around with or
focus on, its more background/coffee/book kind of music.

It can be something different for everyone. It's not
background music at all imo.

If you like it, buy it. If not, then don't. I don't see why
this is so hard to understand.

Listening to those Youtube clips just led me to one
conclusion: Clearly isn't for me!

I know I know -- sometimes I want to get into stuff that I
initially don't like (so as to broaden my horizon). I didn't
like jazz when I was 18, for instance, and listened to lots
of Coltrane, Miles, Fred Frith, Tim Berne, Zorn, Colosseum,
whatever... until it slowly sunk in.

I know what you are talking about... My greatest adventure
in jazz started when I forced myself to make sense of "Point
of Departure" by Andrew Hill. It's an experience I recommend
strongly...
