Tribute Work to Aphex Twin

Hello all. I am mjponso, and chances are you will never
hear from me again. I just wanted to post this in a place
there there would be a slight possibility that Richard D.
James himself would be able to see it (since I can't seem to
find an official site).

I'm a graphic designer and created the cover design for a
fictitious album that was entirely inspired by (and perhaps
a tribute to) James' work.

http://mjponso.deviantart.com/art/Fictitious-Album-Cover-6-
You can find it here: 166758885

As it explains on that page I linked, all elements of the
design were inspired by Aphex Twin. The creepy grin was
inspired by the one on his self-titled album, the title
"...What Makes You Think I Care?" is a response to his album
"...I Care Because You Do," and rendering it as a sonogram
is a nod to James doing the same to his face in his
[Equation] track.

By the way, does anyone here know if I can "subscribe" to
this topic so I can be notified of replies? I've seen that
feature on boards elsewhere, and as I said, I probably won't
be returning to this board again. I just want to show this
to people who are also familiar with Aphex Twin.

Sorry, it looks like the URL in the previous post was
mangled. Try this link; it goes to the same location.

What about it don't you like, penexpers, out of curiosity?

And wow, I didn't expect responses quite this soon.

I got rumbled! Guess I just don't like the title and the
colour scheme. The grin is nice though.

This is a particular favourite of mine:

So, for the first time at all in six weeks and the first
real effort in a LONG time, I've finally done another hand
drawing. This picture looks digital, and it is, but it's
merely a digital tracing of a hand-drawn image. Just in case
you don't believe I drew this by hand, take a look at the
original drawing here: [link]

Anyway, this happens to be my first drawing of a non-OC
character. I got the idea for this picture about a week ago,
but I haven't had much time to actually work on it. You may
ask why I picked Rouge to draw. It's because Rouge is my
favorite Sega character. I wish I knew why.

As those of you who know me may know, I can't stand women
wearing skimpy outfits. I think women can look just as
attractive in other outfits, and that is the basis for this
picture. I decided to draw Rouge in sleepwear (complete with
slippers) to show her in a more comfortable outfit than her
usual fare, which I imagine must be a bugger to put on and
remove.

Body proportions is one of the things I lecture artists
about, and so I was really trying hard to keep things
realistically proportioned. The result was a figure of Rouge
that looks much less like her usual form and more like a
human woman with Rouge's head, which makes me wonder whether
I'd do better drawing humans than anthros. As you can see,
she lacks all her normal voluptuous curves and in fact looks
like she's got a little bit of meat on her bones. It was
partially my decision to do so (since a curvy figure kinda
goes with the sexy look I was trying to avoid), but at the
same time, this doesn't mean I advocate a fat Rouge.

penexpers, with regards to the title, I knew I had to pick
something that was inspired by Aphex Twin. I was split
between choosing the name "...But What if I Don't Care?" and
"...What Makes You Think I Care?" The first title, in my
opinion, would better compliment a face with a skeptical
expression, while the second has a "mean" sound to it that
goes great with the twisted grin.

And wow, Advocate, I didn't expect anyone to bother checking
out the rest of my gallery. There's nothing else in there
inspired by Aphex Twin, aside from perhaps "Red and White,"
which was another photomanipulation.

@ roygbivcore:
I have no idea. I just wanted to show it to him since it
was entirely inspired by his work.

And wow, seems like this is quickly going off topic. I
appreciate the compliments on my other work, but I had
created the topic for the one picture and that was all.

Welcome to Xltronic, you were lucky to get any comments on
the actual picture.

great use of text

i wouldn't bother trying to reproduce the same face though,
i suspect that the grin is some kind of nervous response,
maybe involuntary, too
