Apps
-flashlight (the appstore one doesn't allow the app to crank
brightness (LOL)
-gv mobile (google voice)
-Backgrounder (allows you to multitask apps - good for
pandora/runkeeper (to run in background))

Other epic shit
-SBSettings (could never live without this...allows a drop
down menu by sliding your finger across the top status bar
... quick access to all sorts of shit (enable/disable
settings, wifi ip info, etc) - by far greatest enhancement
to the phone (my fav theme for it is : Cool Brushed Theme)

then install extra SBSettings toggle switches (have to
install these manually from cydia
-Calculator Widget
-Autolock SBSettings
-KeepAwake
-Push Notifications
-Rotation Inhibitor
-sbsettingstoggles
-Vibrate Toggle
-Volume Slider

then, you can manually set which toggles you want to show in
sbsettings...sbsettings is the greatest thing ever.

Other epic shit
-A Better Tap to Unlock (replaces slider to unlock your
phone)
-Five Icon Dock (allows 5 icons in the dock)
-FiveIRows (allows 5 rows of apps on springboard)
-Maps Enhancer (caches google maps info/faster/less
downloading)
-MobileTerminal (ssh client, etc)
-QuickLock - installs an icon (i keep it in the dock) so you
can hit the icon and it will auto lock the phone (i hate
hitting the physical button on the top of the phone)
-ReflectiveDock (adds nice reflection of the icons, pretty
:*)
-Safari Tab Closer (allows you to close multiple tabs/ the
app itself)
-StatusNotifier (awesome - adds icons into the top status
bar when you have waiting email/txt/etc...like normal phones
do)
-Winterboard (themes and shit - a must even if you arent
using themes)

search cydia for all that shit manually...all that is good.
ive been through everything and the above is what has worked
well/lasted the test of time.

Cydia

Answer me these questions three please

1. What are the benefits of jailbreaking?
2. Is it bad for my iphone?
3. Will I still be able to upgrade to OS4?

jailbreaking = allowed to run any software you want on the
phone (versus only what's on the app store / approved by
apple inc)

2. not bad, if anything fucks up you can always restore to
original apple firmware (non jailbroken) ... but dont try
claiming warranty w/ jb firmware

3. how can you jailbreak if something isn't even out yet?
you can always go back to original apple firmware (e.g. when
4.0 comes out) ... as for 4.0 jailbreak, you'll haev to
ob(viously) wait until 4.0 is out and they provide a
jailbroken 4.0 firmware

quite simple, really.

cydia is like the jailbreak version of the appstore...

Thanks elusive, pretty much what I figured. Didn't know
whether or not you could roll back which is all I was
worried about really. Will jailbreak it tonight!

oscillik, I very nearly got an N900 however my N95 8GB
eventually falling apart and not working put me off. How is
it?

for what it is, it's great. Nokia do seem to be ditching
Maemo (the installed OS) in favour of MeeGo, but the
community support will stay strong for it.

the skype integration is great, same for google talk. can do
video calls via skype and google talk, and by jabber.

i'm gonna try installing Quake III Arena on it later, just
because i can.

indeksical, more the worry isn't whether you can rollback to
original apple firmware, but the issue is doing it by
mistake!

e.g. itunes always wants to auto update to latest firmware
..

most situations, the scare with doing something much like
jailbreaking, is if you can ever properly restore it to the
original and not brick it for life ... instead with the damn
iphone, you spend most of your effort making sure itunes
doesnt update the firmware back to non-jailbroken status on
accident ;) bit backwards, eh
