I just watched half of District 9 and had to fast
forward through it and stop and try to catch bits and
pieces. But I mean what is all the amazement over this lame
movie. As much as I like science fiction and all, the
documentary style and extremely lame script..... The half of
the movie I did watch, I liked the special effects and the
aliens...but overall Ill have to give it 1/5.

In what way....
I rarely see a movie I dont like to take something away
from.
But this one is going back to Netflix quickly.

I have to admit I'm with recycle on this, I don't get the
praise. I didn't hate it but it just didn't grip me and I
was bored long before the end, largely due to wiccus (?) who
was just an irritating protagonist. I would have preferred
the documentary style to have carried on throughout the film
rather than it descend in to dull action film territory with
very little of interest to hold it together outside of the
alien technology. I liked the body horror aspect though,
that stuff is always good for a laugh.

The main reason I don't understand the love though is that
no one seems to be able to explain why it's such a great
film.

yeh, i too was hoping for more of that doc style
random-bystander commentary goodness, and generally more
humor based on the randomness on events. But then the plot
went pretty much downhill, the "bad guys" were total blech,
and the buddying between Wiccus and the shrimp gave it the
rest. imo. so imo: nice concept, bad writing. the bipedal
shrimp robot was great.
